In 1975, Celestine Tate Harrington, who was diagnosed with Arthrogryposis Congenita, had her beautiful baby girl taken from her because the Philadelphia Department of Public Welfare deemed her unfit to be a parent after an anonymous call from a concerned neighbor. However, Tate Harrington never let her disability prevent her from providing proper love and care for her children. She used the media to prove to the courts, and the world, that she was more than capable and worthy of motherhood. Tate Harrington’s life is the latest subject of “American Masters: Renegades,” a documentary series showcasing the lives and cultural contributions of little-known historical figures with disabilities. Each short is 12-minutes long and shines the spotlight on one individual. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gSF9NNWA

The law says that elections must be accessible for disabled people, but sometimes we face barriers in exercising our right to vote. You have the right to get help if you face barriers to casting your ballot. Find state resources and learn how to file a complaint with the US Department of Justice at DisabilityBelongs.org/Vote. Your vote matters – make it count! #RightToHelp

"To truly embrace diversity and inclusion, companies must change their approach to disability accommodations. Accommodations should not be seen as inconveniences or special favors but as essential components of a diverse and equitable workforce. A workplace that prioritizes accessibility demonstrates that it values the contributions of all its employees." Join us for a Roundtable Discussion on Including People with Disabilities in Your Board Recruitment Strategy People with disabilities bring a unique set of life-learned skills and perspectives that help boards make better decisions and have a positive impact on the communities they serve. However, they are rarely considered as potential board members for non-disability specific organization boards. Nonprofits need more inclusive recruitment and retention strategies to recruit people with varied abilities. Join a panel of nonprofit leaders Rachel Pardoe, Kathryn Carroll, Susan Olivo, and Ariel Simms as they discuss the importance of this issue, and how they successfully meet the challenges of recruiting from this diverse pool of potential board members. Sign up here, https://lnkd.in/eqXM_syC. NOTE: We will provide ASL and Communication Access Realtime Translation for this event.
