Leadership Thought #50 Principles of Ethical Leadership #3 Honesty When a leader is perceived as transparent, they build trust amongst their colleagues and teams and their clients. This is greatly facilitated by the leader having effective communication skills where they are able to be authentic, open and honest about all kinds of issues. It doesn't matter if the issue is extremely serious or unpopular, as a leader it is our responsibility to be clear and candid so that we empower others to make the right decision based on the information they have. I personally faced this decision when I received a diagnosis of significant illness last year which could have been difficult for the organization and the team if I had said nothing. I chose to be honest with members of my team and then the wider organization about what I was experiencing (without all the gory details!) to enable us to function effectively, knowing what might happen. Honesty and transparency also help to build the reputation of a brand, leading to long-term customer loyalty. #leadership #toastmasters #toastmasters100years

Leadership Thought #49 Principles of Ethical Leadership #3 Justice Justice may conjure up images of law courts or something related. Justice is about more than following the law. It's about ensuring that everyone is getting what they deserve. An ethical leader approaches situations with a focus on treating everyone fairly. They expect their teams will treat each other and their clients in exactly the same way. Acting in this way means that everyone builds an equitable work environment that is a safe place to speak up, because we feel respected and valued whether we are a homogenous or heterogenous team. #leadership #toastmasters #toastmasters100years
