When someone as influential as this man passes, the world takes notice. Over his nearly eight decades of work across stage and screen, he brought to us not one, not two, but dozens of memorable rolls from the leads, to crucial supporting characters, to memorable cameos. As the world stops to remember a great man, we want to share some of our favorites from his incredible body of work. This is exactly who our customer is.

Before I started DKOldies, I witnessed something in a GameStop store that stuck with me. A mom came in looking for a specific game for her son and mispronounced the title. Instead of helping her, the clerk corrected her to show off his knowledge. She then mentioned being unsure about the system the game was for, thinking it may be for the PlayStation. The clerk went into a lengthy explanation of all the consoles, overwhelming her. She eventually picked a game, likely just to end the uncomfortable exchange. At the counter, the employee kept pushing her to reserve other games she had never heard of. She politely declined, but he persisted until she firmly said no. Frustrated, she bought the game, possibly for the wrong system, and left quickly looking disturbed. After she left, the clerk made fun of her to another employee about how little she knew. This experience influenced DKOldies' approach as we grew. We simplified everything, trained our staff to understand what that particular woman wanted and more importantly, what she didn’t, never talk down, Never Be A Toxic Gamer, never try to impress with gaming knowledge. We understand that people have lives outside of gaming and don’t need to know everything to enjoy games. This approach has brought some backlash from the hardcore gaming community who criticize us. Our content isn’t aimed at the hardcore gamer, it's for people like that mom. We help set up consoles so she can enjoy them with her family. We offer a free one-year warranty to ensure peace of mind. Our social media brings a positive, fun, and cheerful side to gaming. DKOldies is here for those who want to enjoy games from their past without the pressure, confusion, or judgment. We aim to make gaming fun and accessible for everyone. https://lnkd.in/exbPjqPr

    Snow day or virtual school?

View profile for Drew Steimel, graphic

Could be getting 8 inches of snow today and some kids get the day off from school! Other kids have virtual school. In the '80s and '90s, a snowstorm meant no school and a day of adventure. Today, kids are stuck indoors with thier teachers invading thier homes. Some are actually watching other kids having a snowball fight while they're trapped in virtual school being told to pay attention to the screen. What happened?Does it seem unfair? Do we really want to be the ones who steal this joy from children? Do parents and teachers realize how excited kids are about snow, especially when it hasn’t snowed like this in two years? At DKOldies, we know we sell video games, but we also remember the '80s and '90s. It wasn’t just about gaming, it was equally about getting outside. Our childhood was a blend of digital play and real-world adventures, especially on snow days. Virtual school has its place but shouldn't replace a snow day like this. Snow days are about more than just missing school; they're about experiencing life. As adults, we should be the ones protecting these magical moments, not be the reason they miss them. I would love to hear the reasons from the teachers or parents that are keeping the kids inside staring at monitors today.
