🔴 Doctors of the World/Médecins du Monde (MdM) International Network and Mehad warn that funding cuts for #Syria risk forcing humanitarian actors to choose between life-saving interventions and shutting down essential health programmes. 🇸🇾 An unprecedented 16.7 million people in Syria need assistance this year, representing over 75% of the population. As humanitarian actors are often the only providers of healthcare, reduced funding means that access to healthcare will be severely limited. #MentalHealth and sexual and #reproductive health interventions are particularly at risk. As attacks on #Gaza intensified last week, 13 organisations including Doctors of the World published a report accurately illustrating humanitarian aid cuts. ❌ Intensification of attacks on civilians & humanitarian staff ❌ Forced and massive movements of populations ❌ Closure of aid checkpoints ❌ Multiplication of humanitarian personnel controls by the Israeli army 🔴 It is urgent that third-party countries recognize that they have failed to fulfill their obligations to guarantee respect for international humanitarian law and act for an immediate #ceasefire. #CeaseFireNow

🇸🇾 #SYRIA: 13 YEARS OF WAR 🔴 Syria, 15 March 2011: in the midst of the Arab Spring, the Syrian authorities' violent repression of the population uprising leads to a destructive and violent civil war that continues to this day. The constant bombardment, violence and insecurity have led to a multitude of health issues. Only 59% of hospitals and 57% of primary care centers are fully functioning. Health professionals have fled the country and most civilians are unable to afford consultations and medicine. Today, despite the ongoing violence and difficulties in delivering humanitarian aid, Doctors of the World continues its efforts to maintain access to healthcare for victims of the conflict. 🟣 We dedicate this International Women's Day to all the women who cross the Darién Gap and denounce the lack of respect for women's rights in this region. 🇨🇴 The Darién is a forest over 100km long, located between Colombia and Panama. It is crossed every year by many people, including women, with the aim of a better life in North America. Doctors of the World is present in the las Tecas camp. The medical team prevents gender-based violence by offering awareness-raising workshops, distributes sexual and reproductive health kits and advocates for greater safety for women with the public authorities. 🔗 To find out more about our actions in Darién, click on the link below. https://lnkd.in/e34tqGxc #IWD2024 #InternationalWomensDay #migration #colombia #panama
