A creative laboratory for unconventional art education
About us
Dogbotic is a collective interested in unconventional sounds and their potential creative applications. We work as a commercial audio studio—producing music, sound, and audio tech for all sorts of clients—and as a research and education outfit—teaching workshops on a variety of niche artistic topics. The Studio: Dogbotic is one of North America’s premier boutique music and sound design studios, having worked with Savage x Fenty, Audible, and Adult Swim. We’re mad scientists of audio—composing for animation, film, installation, theater, podcast, games, web, radio, and every other medium in between. The Research Laboratory: Dogbotic acts as an open source audio research laboratory, developing novel audio tools, inventing our own musical instruments, and researching new uses for emergent creative technology. We exhibited at Austin's Touch the Art to showcase extinct sounds from animals, environments and technology through our Audiofossil Installation. The Workshop: Dogbotic's most accessible arm are its socially-minded educational workshops. We teach unconventional art classes as a means to promote creativity, discourage mindless consumerism, and engage in conversations about how to use our art to make the world more equitable. Why we do what we do? The Dogbotic team loves making people confused about what music is. We love teaching artists how to engineer, and convincing folks how straightforward a lot of seemingly “difficult” concepts are. We think many engineering disciplines—from electronics to film chemistry—have a history of being gate kept by prejudiced institutions. We hope to be a space free of judgement that fosters genuine collaboration and curiosity and an appreciation for the weird and wonderful.

Meet Carola / Humo (aka soft.circuit.babe) a Mexico City-based artist and sonic researcher who builds analog instruments, convenes collective sound experiments, and engages indigenous pre-American technologies. We chatted with Carola about their background, ethos, and array of projects from synths from Sweetgum seeds to homemade x-ray flexi discs. “DIY doesn’t necessarily mean collecting a bunch of junk, but it helps because, for example, if you have these things around, they sit there in your peripheral vision and they begin to suggest things to you . . .” Interdisciplinary artist and professor John Roach speaks about the serendipity of sounds from the things around us, how sound can carry narrative, and well .. bees 🐝 Read more about John and his experience making sounds with Dogbotic in our blog: https://lnkd.in/gWAJdu2H
