Stroke rates among younger adults have surged by over 40% in recent decades, yet many remain unaware of the symptoms. Signs like numbness in the face, arms, or legs, difficulty speaking, dizziness, and vision issues can be warning signs of a stroke. While factors such as arterial injuries, genetic disorders, and infections may contribute, high blood pressure and diabetes are also major risks. Early detection is crucial! Remember the acronym FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Slurred speech, Time to call 911. Quick action can save lives. Stay aware, stay safe! About us
Pratico Lab focuses on clinical pharmacology, specifically investigating the cellular and molecular aspects of cell oxidative biology. The lab has a keen interest in small molecules like bioactive oxidized lipids and their significance as biomarkers, mediators of cellular and molecular events involved in the pathogenesis of clinical conditions, and potential therapeutic targets for human diseases. The research extends to multiple disciplines including aging, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegeneration. Cellular and animal models of human diseases are employed, with an emphasis on translating observations into a better understanding of human physiology and pathology. The lab is dedicated to fostering high-quality collaborative scientific research while providing exceptional teaching and mentoring for young scientists. Neurological diseases now surpass cardiovascular diseases as the leading cause of global morbidity and disability, affecting over 3 billion people worldwide. A study published in Lancet Neurology reveals a 20% rise in neurological conditions over the last two decades, with stroke, dementia, diabetic neuropathy, and autism among the most prevalent. However, prevention strategies, such as vaccines and reducing risk factors like high blood pressure and smoking, offer hope. Prioritizing brain health through public education, campaigns, and accessible guidelines is essential to combat this growing crisis and improve global health outcomes. Sleep is crucial in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and maintaining overall brain health. Tips for Healthy Sleep Maintain a Consistent Schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Develop calming pre-sleep habits, such as reading or taking a warm bath. Limit Stimulants: Reduce caffeine and electronic device use before bed. Ensure a Comfortable Sleep Environment: Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. By prioritizing good sleep hygiene and ensuring regular, quality sleep, you can help support cognitive health and potentially reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. 🌐 www.drdomenicopratico.com | www.thepraticolab.com 📚 https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn 🧠 https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz 🐦 https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK 🖋️ https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #Domenicopratico #praticolab #drdomenico #alzhiemer #sleep #brainhealth #SleepHealth #BrainHealth #AlzheimersPrevention #AlzheimersAwareness #SleepTips #MentalHealth #HealthyLiving #QualitySleep #SleepRoutine

Diagnosing dementia can be difficult, as the majority of cases are irreversible. But some kinds are associated with illnesses that can be treated, therefore early detection is important. The term dementia describes a cognitive deterioration that interferes with day-to-day functioning; it is not a medical condition. The most prevalent type, Alzheimer's, impacts behavior, language, and memory. Nevertheless, there are reversible illnesses that can mimic dementia, such as vitamin deficits or drug side effects. Even if there isn't a cure, research is still being done that could lead to new therapies. We can better manage this condition and enhance the quality of life for individuals who are impacted by it by promptly obtaining medical care. Five things that no one mentioned about being a caregiver Tough Decisions: You’ll face challenging choices that are often difficult to make. Different from Parenting: Caring for an elderly parent is quite distinct from raising a child. Uncomfortable Moments: The caregiving experience can involve uncomfortable situations. Strained Relationships: Your personal relationships may experience significant stress. Need for Respite: Taking breaks is crucial for maintaining your own well-being. 🌐 www.drdomenicopratico.com | www.thepraticolab.com 📚 https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn 🧠 https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz 🐦 https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK 🖋️ https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #CaregiverLife #ToughDecisions #ElderCare #CaregivingChallenges #StrainedRelationships #CaregiverSupport #RespiteCare #SelfCareMatters #CaregiverAwareness #UnspokenRealities #domenicoPratico #praticolab

September marks World Alzheimer’s Month, a global effort to raise awareness and challenge stigmas around Alzheimer’s and dementia. This year's theme, ‘It is never too early, never too late,’ emphasizes the importance of lifelong healthy choices in reducing Alzheimer’s risk. With dementia cases expected to triple in 25 years, understanding and acting on lifestyle factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity is crucial. Early detection allows better care, and with women at higher risk, awareness is key. Together, through knowledge and lifestyle, we can make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Schedule Regular Dental Checkups: Visit your dentist at least twice a year for cleanings and checkups to catch and treat any oral health issues early. Treat Gum Disease Promptly: If you notice signs of gum disease, such as red, swollen, or bleeding gums, seek treatment immediately to prevent further complications. Maintain a Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and limit sugary foods and drinks to protect your teeth and gums. Consider Dentures if Needed: If you’ve lost teeth, replace them with well-fitting dentures to maintain chewing function and oral health. Monitor and Manage Diabetes: If you have diabetes, keep it under control, as it's a risk factor for gum disease and, potentially, cognitive decline. Stay Informed and Research: Keep up with new research on the link between oral health and brain health, and apply any new findings to your oral care routine. www.drdomenicopratico.com https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #OralHealth #BrainHealth #HealthyTeeth #DentalCare #GumDisease #HealthyLifestyle #CognitiveHealth #PreventiveCare #DentalCheckup #WellnessTips #domenicopratico #praticolab #OralHealthawareness

On International Dog Day, we celebrate the enduring bond between humans and dogs, known for their loyalty, friendship, and companionship. For thousands of years, dogs have been our protectors, helpers, and beloved companions. They not only offer emotional support but also provide numerous health benefits, particularly for those with dementia. Dogs encourage physical activity, reduce stress, and improve cardiovascular health. Regular interaction with dogs can ease dementia symptoms like agitation and loneliness while enhancing memory and communication skills. Today, we honor our furry friends and the immense joy they bring into our lives.
