What It Is: Gene therapy involves introducing, removing, or altering genetic material within a person's cells to treat or prevent disease. It aims to address the root cause of genetic disorders by correcting defective genes. Types of Gene Therapy: Somatic Gene Therapy: Targets non-reproductive cells, affecting only the individual receiving the therapy. Germline Gene Therapy: Targets reproductive cells (sperm or eggs), which could be passed on to future generations. This approach is more controversial and currently not widely practiced.) 🌐 www.drdomenicopratico.com | www.thepraticolab.com 📚 https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn 🧠 https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz 🐦 https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK 🖋️ https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #genetherapy #geneticdisorders #MedicalInnovation #somaticgenetherapy #germlinegenetherapy #GeneticResearch #Biotechnology #FutureOfMedicine #precisionmedicine #geneticengineering #praticolab #AlzheimersResearch #alzheimerscare #alzheimersawareness #domenicopratico

Brush Your Way to Brain Health: The Surprising Connection Between Oral Hygiene and Cognitive Decline In our Recent blog we have uncovered a compelling link between oral health and cognitive well-being, suggesting that maintaining good oral hygiene could help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Conditions like gingivitis and periodontitis, which involve bacterial buildup and chronic inflammation, have been found to negatively impact brain health by contributing to the loss of hippocampal volume, a region crucial for memory. While further research is needed to establish a definitive cause-effect relationship, the evidence so far highlights the importance of regular dental checkups and timely treatment of gum disease. This is especially relevant for individuals with diabetes, as they are at a higher risk for gum disease and, subsequently, cognitive decline. As we prioritize our oral care routines, we are also taking an important step toward safeguarding our cognitive health Read the blog here: https://bit.ly/4cfwajl https://bit.ly/3Ywnamo 🌐 www.drdomenicopratico.com | www.thepraticolab.com 📚 https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn 🧠 https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz 🐦 https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK 🖋️ https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #oralhealth #brainhealth #cognitivedecline #alzheimersprevention #dementiaawareness #gumdisease #healthyteeth #MindandMouth #PreventiveCare #dentalhealth #diabetesawareness #praticolab #AlzheimersResearch #alzheimerscare #alzheimersawareness #domenicopratico

The Impact of Social Engagement on Brain Health Why Connections Matter? Humans are inherently social beings, and our brains are wired to thrive on social interaction. Here’s how social engagement impacts brain health: Cognitive Stimulation: Social activities often involve complex cognitive tasks, such as conversation, problem-solving, and perspective-taking. Engaging in these activities stimulates neural pathways, promoting cognitive flexibility and resilience. Emotional Well-Being: Positive social interactions release neurotransmitters like dopamine and oxytocin, which enhance mood and reduce stress. Lower stress levels contribute to better brain health and may protect against neurodegenerative diseases. Brain Structure and Function: Studies using neuroimaging techniques have shown that social isolation or loneliness can lead to structural changes in the brain, particularly in areas involved in emotional regulation and memory. Conversely, social engagement can help preserve these brain regions. Cognitive Reserve: Social engagement contributes to cognitive reserve, the brain’s ability to maintain normal cognitive function despite age-related changes or damage. Individuals with higher cognitive reserve are less likely to experience symptoms of cognitive decline. The impact of social engagement on brain health is profound and multifaceted. By nurturing strong social connections and fostering environments that promote interaction and community, we not only enhance our cognitive abilities but also build resilience against age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. 🌐 www.drdomenicopratico.com | www.thepraticolab.com 📚 https://lnkd.in/ePYMYRWn 🧠 https://lnkd.in/eJjn_Shz 🐦 https://lnkd.in/e-NvsgBK 🖋️ https://lnkd.in/ecVzXE8D #brainhealth #cognitivestimulation #socialengagement #cognitivereserve #neuroscience #mentalhealth #socialconnections #healthyaging #alzheimersprevention #neuroplasticity #wellness #communitybuilding #praticolab #AlzheimersResearch #alzheimerscare #AlzheimersAwareness #domenicopratico
