About us
Also known as “d-b” (pronounced dee-bee), social enterprise donor-bridge was founded in December 2016 by two Lewis & Clark College alumni striving to solve a problem people are experiencing, which is rather vexing to overcome but quite simple to recognize. Maybe you’ve experienced it too, or even heard about how we’re solving it: Whether in Portland, Oregon—officially in a housing emergency with more than 1,800 people living on the street—or elsewhere, when encountering an asker (i.e. someone asking for help), one pauses- if I donate money, will I help or harm? If I donate something else, what would help, and do I have time to find it, buy it, and donate it? This fleeting pause represents something very significant: a social barrier, caused by distrust and inconvenience. The purpose of donor-bridge is to overcome this barrier with an app that will seamlessly allow donors (i.e. users) to instantly give comprehensive help to any asker. Considered a ‘community-driven, donor-to-asker mobile giving platform’, the app will be scalable to any city and fit to help any person regardless of whether they own a phone, Bluetooth-emitting device or any technology at all. In 2018, Donor Bridge will become the DBA of Effectual Enterprises (E²), founded by Portland area native Raymond Torkelson and Bay area native Joshua Proto, both Lewis & Clark College and Onramp Institute alumni applying the entrepreneurial process of effectuation to real-world problems.
