Have a Friday morning podcast recording with Charles Reed Anderson on his TechBurst Talks Podcast and chat about #GenerativeAI and its societal implications on video. It has been great to chat in his amazing podcast studio with great coffee before he heads off to Europe where future recordings will probably be done either in his new studio in Amsterdam or online. We did everything possible to simplify why you should care about #AI, and how you can make it work for you and advocate that it is likely to augment what you are doing, rather than replace what you are doing. Our CEO, Bernard Leong shared his perspectives on the current competition of the large language models #LLMs in #China in the Bloomberg article yesterday "OpenAI's China Block to Reshape #AI Scene as Big Players Pounce" by Sarah Zheng: https://lnkd.in/gUdxM8FK

What is the impact on the #LLMs in #China after OpenAI's block? 1/ The trickle-down effect from this move might lead to other open-source AI technologies such as Meta's Llama 3 or other models restricting access to developers in China. 2/ There is the war of the hundred models (and I say it metaphorically) in China, and there are now much fewer venture capital funds in China from foreign investors. It will inevitably lead to only the very few models, possibly the hyperscalers in China - Alibaba, Tencent and Bytedance and maybe 01 AI by Lee Kai-Fu to survive the onslaught. So, there will be a few winners and they will dominate the Chinese AI sector. 3/ The decoupling of the US-China will lead the rest of the world to work with two systems: Chinese and US AI systems. The US hopes to restrict AI access to China, but the Chinese have already caught up and are getting closer to where the US LLMs are. Fun Fact: You cannot access #ChatGPT in Hong Kong SAR. Most will immediately jump to the conclusion that the Chinese government banned it. Instead, it is Open AI's choice not to let them access it. What's worse, people in Hong Kong cannot access the Chinese LLMs and are left with Poe from Quora which is ironically owned by one of the board members in Open AI.
