Thank you to the Glendale News-Press for covering our inaugural Battle of the Badges chess competition! 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDWFxqkD It was an honor to host this event, which brought together our city's fire department, police department, municipal officials, and the incredible students from the American Chess Academy. While the students emerged victorious, the real win was the sense of community cultivated that day. As Mayor Elen Asatryan noted, "bringing young people together with professionals ... creating that atmosphere of not just competition, but interaction" was truly special. We look forward to hosting a bigger event next year as we expand participation to more departments, organizations, and businesses. Stay tuned ...

Thank you to everyone who helped make Saturday's inaugural Battle of the Badges chess competition a memorable community event. We had teams from the Glendale Police Department, the Glendale Fire Department, representatives from the City of Glendale, CA, and some talented kids from the American Chess Academy, each bringing their best game to the table. It was great to see our community leaders and local heroes swapping their usual gear for chess pieces and timers. The energy was competitive but fun, with plenty of chess matches that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. “It only makes sense for chess to be part of everyday life in Glendale, where smart people work hard every day to make Glendale a national technology hub,” said our president, David Tonoyan, at the opening of the event.
