Last night we had the pleasure of attending AGC of Connecticut's Industry Recognition Awards Dinner with our incredible team, filled with nominees and winners! In addition to the National Safety Award, our team had some really impressive wins. Downes nominated Felix J Reyes from the City of New London as Public Owner of the Year for his passion and commitment to the City and our Community Center project. Felix’s architectural background coupled with his New London roots provide him with a unique perspective and understanding of the community center project which in turn, provides the Downes staff a collaborative partner, which makes successfully implementing a project like this that much more fulfilling. We can go on and on about Felix, and we are thrilled that his efforts were recognized when he was announced the winner! Project Executive Scott Scholl and Superintendent Dave Gunn were also nominated for their outstanding performance this year, but unfortunately they were not selected. The nominees for all categories were strong performers and all winners truly deserved the recognition for their efforts in the industry. Congratulations to all nominees and winners!

Last week our crew in Windsor Locks was joined by the Ultimate Intern, Noah, who is a senior at Suffield High School. We call him the Ultimate Intern because he is truly incredible! Graduating from SHS in January, he will be heading to CCSU for the Spring semester starting his college career as a Sophomore, studying Construction Management. And in his spare time, he is a unified MMA fighter and competitive sword swinger. Our team is thrilled to have Noah on site assisting with Document Control and marking up drawings, attending OAC meetings, logging inspections, and of course walking the site with our crew and learning construction practices and procedures. We’re so excited to see what the future holds for Noah!

Despite the rain on Monday, the Steel Topping Ceremony for the New London Community Recreation Center was a huge success! Mayor Michael Passero, Director of Economic Planning Felix J Reyes, and several other City and State representatives were joined by members of the community, and students & staff from the Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School to sign the beam and celebrate this exciting milestone.
