When we brought Lincoln to NJ at 10 years old, and I met him for the first time, he was sadly so broken. He cried and ran out of the office, locked himself in someone's car, and had a meltdown. He was exhausted from repeated rejection and abuse. He was also scared. Paul (my husband) talked to him for a long time, and I promised him that I had the perfect family for him, that they would love him forever and that he would never have to move again. It got him out of the car, and he eventually left with his new family. My colleagues scolded me for making such a promise. They were correct; it wasn't right for me to do that, and I sweated this placement out. He is now 12 years old and loves his new family. He bonded so well with his new dad that he would not go to sleep until his dad hugged him and told him he loved him every night. The adoption was finalized on Thursday, and the family is beyond HAPPY, which makes me happy. I love our families and kids so much! I love happy endings, don't you?
