Downtown Women's Center was honored to host California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to announce over $800 million in additional funding to better serve people experiencing homelessness across the state of California this morning. We are so grateful for all of the elected officials and community partners who gathered here today to celebrate this major announcement. Your coordination and sustained support make our vision of ending homelessness for women, survivors, and gender diverse communities possible. Special thank you to all in attendance ❤️ Hilda Solis (LA County Supervisor, District 1) Kathryn Barger (LA County Supervisor, District 5) Secretary Tomiquia Moss (BCSH) Dr. Adams Kellum (LAHSA) Myong Kim, LCSW

Chief Program Officer at Downtown Women's Center

Yesterday we had a fabulous celebration of the 10 year anniversary of LA RISE hosted by REDF ! LA RISE provides transitional employment opportunities for participants interested in getting back into the workforce. At DWC, LA RISE participants are connected to wrap around support services that include housing case management, mental health services and employment counseling. It is an important program that helps participants experiencing homelessness boost their skills and confidence to pursue their dreams and goals. I was thankful to the REDF team (Reena De Asis & Maria Kim) for featuring MADE products at the event, and inviting me to participate in a fireside chat with other local leaders doing this incredible work. I was especially inspired by DWC's Training Lead, Alexandria Pineda, for sharing her successes of being a part of our LA RISE program. And a huge Thank You to our Workforce Team for tabling at the event's resource fair! I truly believe that connecting people experiencing homelessness to employment is a critical solution to ending homelessness so I am excited for what the next decade will hold for LA RISE! 🎊

A huge thank you to the Mayor’s office for joining DWC’s NoHo site for their first resource fair! We are grateful to receive a scroll from the Mayors office in recognition of the teams incredible work in permanent supportive housing; the first step in providing individuals what they need to work toward their goals and reach personal stability. We can’t do this work alone!
