Two of these photos are my own selfies, and three are AI-generated. I wonder if you can tell the difference? 😀
About 6 months ago, I read about Dr Li Lian Foo (符丽联) and Juliana Chan, PhD experiences with AI-generated headshots. At that time, the results did not appear to be very consistent nor very realistic, so it did not seem to be worth the investment.
However, over the CNY period (long weekend, plus flush with ang pow money) I decided to try out the Dreamwave AI site; with a small selection of well-lit selfies from my camera, I purchased a basic package for myself and received 120 AI-generated headshots. And the results were quite remarkable. Even my wife agreed that almost all the pictures looked very much like me, except for the random clothing choices (for example, I will never be wearing a Steve Job's black turtleneck sweater!)
It is a very small price to pay for professional-looking headshots and profile pictures, especially for someone like myself, who finds taking these type of photographs a very awkward and self-conscious process. My advice is to purchase the cheapest package - 120 photos is plenty - and to submit photos of yourself in the pose that you would most like your AI headshots to recreate.
Once again, this demonstrates how quickly (just 6 months) is all it takes from generative AI to improve in amazing ways. A phrase I keep hearing nowadays is that "this is the worse that it (generative AI) is going to be" - so we can only begin to imagine what it will achieve in another 6 months.
