SPECIAL ANNOUCEMENT: On this International Women’s Day, Drexel Hamilton is proud to officially announce that our Head of Capital Markets, Melissa Hiler Fay, has become a Managing Partner – the first woman to become an equity owner in Drexel Hamilton’s history. Melissa has been a finance professional for over 15 years, starting her career at Credit Suisse before going to GE Capital and finally landing at Drexel Hamilton in 2020. Before her finance career, the Annapolis graduate spent 9 years in the Navy as a helicopter pilot and as an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where she also received her MBA. Her nine years of service to our country maintains Drexel Hamilton’s status as the only 100% veteran-owned and operated investment bank, but now on this International Women’s Day, we have our first woman veteran owner as well. Please help us in congratulating, Melissa. #internationalwomensday #womensday #veterans #service

This month we welcome John Sipher to the team as Drexel Hamilton’s geopolitical insights desk grows in capability. John is a veteran from a side of the DoD that doesn’t get talked about often - the CIA. He brings 28 years of experience as a field operative, serving all over the world and doing the things we often think only exist in the movies. Our entire team is honored to work with him. John’s unique perspectives and well-versed views of the geopolitical landscape, which is probably the most prominent topic among financial institutions this year, will be a great value addition to our team and those we serve. Check out our piece today of John’s take on the current situation at the Red Sea, as well as this month’s news of Ethiopia negotiating access to the port of Berbera, giving Ethiopia easier access to the Red Sea.

I'm optimistic about 2024 in the capital markets! After months of volatility and rising interest rates in Q3 last year, we’ve been watching benchmarks like the 10-year UST climb back down from peaks in late October. However, even though rates were moving back down, anticipating demand in the primary markets from Thanksgiving through the New Year is challenging due to the general slowing in #creditmarket activity throughout the holidays. With rates off their peaks and everyone jumping back into work after the new year, new issue volume is expected to flourish in the upcoming months. Also, the bulge brackets are anticipating a rebound in transactional volume and stability across both debt and equity underwriting. As highlighted in this Financial Times article back in October, while volume is still forecasted to be much less than 2021 levels, we’re looking forward to new issuance normalization and possibly slightly greater than 2019 levels. If these predictions are correct, we can focus less on volatility in macroeconomics and more on continuing to succeed in our mission. More underwriting volume means more opportunities for Drexel Hamilton to grow and continue to give back to the veteran community. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and we’re looking forward to a great year ahead. https://lnkd.in/dQh3jmGF

A great football weekend, topped off by Drexel Hamilton colleagues Ben Downing and Martin Tomalka Jr. attending the Heisman Trophy presentation, seen here with former Heisman winner Andre Ware, and Ben with 1983 Heisman winner Mike Rozier, and this year's winner, Jayden Daniels. #BeatNavy

This Veterans Day, as a 100% veteran-owned firm with 70% of our employees being veterans, we have so many veterans to thank, but today we'd like to highlight just one of our teammates. Jerry Majetich. On October 29th, 2005, while operating in Iraq, Jerry’s Humvee was targeted by a roadside bomb, killing two of the four soldiers inside. Jerry suffered near-death injuries with extensive 4th degree burns, gunshot wounds from the firefight that immediately followed the explosion, as well as other critical injuries. He was recently honored as the keynote speaker for Building Homes for Heroes, Inc. at NYSE for his service both in and out of uniform. Please hammer down on the 'Repost' button, and comment below, to help us in thanking Jerry for his service. #veteransday2023 #thankyouforyourservice CC: Patrick J.
