In continuing our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re excited to share the story of Ernest Alzate, Service Manager for Solace Apartments, whose rich heritage spans Puerto Rican, French, and Colombian ancestry. Raised in Virginia with strong Colombian and Puerto Rican influences, Ernest comes from a proud military family. His paternal grandfather served as the first Captain of the Colombian tall ship, ARC Gloria, and later retired as Vice Admiral, while his maternal grandfather fought in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. Ernest reflects fondly on the vibrant culture passed down from his family, highlighting the joy that food, music, and strong core values bring to his life. From his mother singing in the kitchen while preparing traditional meals like roasted pork and yellow rice with pigeon peas, to family gatherings filled with ethnic dances and the sounds of percussion instruments, these traditions have shaped who he is today.
