Inspiring Together

About us

FIRM PROFILE In 1983, David Sommers founded our firm on the simple value of “people come first.” In 2010, inspired by the notion of a firm rooted in culture, Jeffrey Meyers became a partner with hopes of providing others the opportunity to truly enjoy the architectural profession. In 2011 the firm supplemented culture with design by hiring Eric Pros, who embraces and emphasizes the principle that design matters. Today the firm considers itself a culture-based design firm, led by six studio directors with diversity of thought, typology, and approach. Together we strive to shape the world by inspiring the next generation of architectural professionals to embrace an unparalleled commitment to both culture and design. STUDIOS Over the years, the firm’s breadth of experience in multiple architectural design disciplines has led to the development of five studios: Healthcare Hospitality Higher Education Historic Preservation | Adaptive Transformation Public Safety | Civic Architecture OUR PROVEN PROCESS Our ultimate purpose is to inspire together. We strive to cultivate an environment of trust and genuine care, where everyone is committed to knowledge. This has generated a firm of dedicated and unabashedly collaborative people who enjoy working together and bringing out the best in each other. We are never finished improving. We pursue excellence on every project and are transformed by each experience. We are organized internally to respond to change and growth, and to foster innovation and creativity. Guided by our shared core values, we each contribute our talents and strengths to the whole. Leaders support and mentor individual development, promoting the advancement of the entire organization. Our projects are a testament to our values and tell our story.

Harvest 2024 II - Last Friday, the DS Architecture team had the privilege of spending our annual Harvest Day at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. It was a wonderful day of reflection and forward thinking, where we celebrated the successes of the past year and shared ideas for the future. The beauty of the conservatory truly inspires us as designers. Surrounded by such thoughtful design, we left with fresh ideas and a renewed commitment to creating spaces that harmonize with nature. - A heartfelt thank you to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for hosting our event and showing us around the space. We are excited about what lies ahead and grateful for the opportunity to grow together as a team. - @ds.architecture DS ARCHITECTURE - #architecture #arch #design #architecturelovers #architect #thoughtleadership #paradigmshift #culture #companyculture #Pittsburgh #Phipps

It was wonderful to meet so many new Fire Chiefs and Municipal Leaders at the FIERO conference, and see some familiar faces from our collaborators. Many thanks to all the volunteers who make this event possible each year. This year, we were pleased to share not one, but TWO presentations that gave us the chance to share knowledge and have a little fun in the process. It was also great to see the printed version of the Crackyl Magazine’s Fire Station Design Volume Number 1 featuring Eric Pros' article “How To Serve Up Tasty Firehouse Kitchens.” As always, our commitment to knowledge drives us toward excellence in our work, and compels us to share our subject matter expertise with those who need it. - @ds.architecture #FireHouseDesign #FIEROconference #StationDesign #AlwaysLearningAlwaysTeaching

This is the latest installment of our Friday Feature series, sharing some of our favorite projects. Check out the previous featured projects on our Instagram! https://lnkd.in/g79ccrvz - Friday Feature VII Westfield Fire and Rescue Station - The Westfield Fire and Rescue Station is the product of a partnership with Westfield Township and the Village of Westfield Center. The new facility is centrally located directly adjacent to a major highway and serves both communities. The new facility now accommodates a full service operation, and previously served the department’s volunteer firefighter needs. In addition to functioning as the Fire Department, the Westfield Fire Station accommodates other community needs for the township, including a community meeting room.  The interior arrangement of the station is welcoming to guests from the community while providing security and privacy to the firefighters.  The new building contains 4 double pull-through bays, 1 first responder vehicle single bay, 1 drive through wash bay with undercarriage wash system, male and female accessible dorm rooms with space for expansion, a 1,000 SF community meeting space, safe room, triage area, and space for storing township vehicles. It features a radiant heated floor in the apparatus bay, a 3 story training tower with confined space training, and a covered outdoor eating area for staff.  As criteria architect, DS Architecture performed programming, site layout, schematic design, and design development on this project. - @ds.architecture #architecture #arch #design #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architect #archilovers #modernarchitecture #publicsafetydesign #firestationdesign #fridayfeature

YOUR Business Coach! THE Executive Coach! Building YOU into a Better Businessperson One Step at a Time!

Culture is the Foundation that creates a Family JEFFREY MEYERS,, CEO & Owner of DS Architecture, has a philosophy that keeps the firm together and attracts the best talent in the business. He’ll be humble and tell you all about the beginnings of DS Architecture came from his mentor and father figure, Dave Sommers. And he’d be right to do so. Jeffrey’s leadership and vision for DS Architecture is the reason they’ve grown while remaining small. His vision is to have DS Architecture be THE “Culture-Based Design Firm”. Interesting way to think about a business growing and remaining small, but that is exactly what’s happened at DS Architecture. During this interview we learn that DS Architecture is now working on more and bigger projects, the projects they want to work on, and making more money with 20 people than they were with 33 or 28 people. That is growing your business and remaining small. How do they do it??? They have established systems that drive them in the everyday effort to be better and serve their clients. They work smart and constantly look for inspiration.  Their 5 Core Values: Straightforward approach to who they are, why they do what they do, how they do it, and what they will produce for their clients. Fairness Trustworthy Conviction Collaboration Commitment to Knowledge Their Commitment to Over Design & Work To Function The team under Jeff’s leadership firmly believes in People matter more than Profits and Projects. The collaborative approach to everything they do illustrates the mindset and conviction they have to bring the most thought-out, creative designs for clients. As Jeff says, they design for people that haven’t been born yet. Jeff uses a unique idea to inspire his talented team; he creates a vacuum for them to eventually fill. He has found that if you look to inspire the team and ask them to think differently and for the long term, you must create a space for them to grow into. That vacuum is the firm creating the space for each team member to contribute to their own future. It’s a great way to empower your team and receive greatness out of each member. Through autonomy, authority, and accountability the DS Architecture team is constantly growing . . .but remaining small. Jeffrey Myers has been through the highs and lows of life. He is the example of what is possible with the right mindset and the ability to “mourn the old you”. Through failures and achievements. Through ups and downs, Jeffrey Myers navigates the successes of his life on his own terms. He is the one deciding what is success. And to be honest, that is the best and only way to define it . . .your own way! This is the most emotional and inspiration episode we have ever done on the Business Spotlight Series. I urge you to click here and watch the full episode. Jeff’s candor and vulnerability, and trust in the conversation is inspirational on many levels. Thoroughly enjoyed the conversation.
