About us

FIRM PROFILE In 1983, David Sommers founded our firm on the simple value of “people come first.” In 2010, inspired by the notion of a firm rooted in culture, Jeffrey Meyers became a partner with hopes of providing others the opportunity to truly enjoy the architectural profession. In 2011 the firm supplemented culture with design by hiring Eric Pros, who embraces and emphasizes the principle that design matters. Today the firm considers itself a culture-based design firm, led by six studio directors with diversity of thought, typology, and approach. Together we strive to shape the world by inspiring the next generation of architectural professionals to embrace an unparalleled commitment to both culture and design. STUDIOS Over the years, the firm’s breadth of experience in multiple architectural design disciplines has led to the development of five studios: Healthcare Hospitality Higher Education Historic Preservation | Adaptive Transformation Public Safety | Civic Architecture OUR PROVEN PROCESS Our ultimate purpose is to inspire together. We strive to cultivate an environment of trust and genuine care, where everyone is committed to knowledge. This has generated a firm of dedicated and unabashedly collaborative people who enjoy working together and bringing out the best in each other. We are never finished improving. We pursue excellence on every project and are transformed by each experience. We are organized internally to respond to change and growth, and to foster innovation and creativity.     Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has officially broken ground on the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area Visitor Center, a project Swath Design is proud to be part of! This new center will immerse visitors in Southeast Ohio’s rich natural beauty and wildlife. Our team is designing interpretive exhibits that will educate visitors about the region’s landscape, habitats, and the return of native species like bison.     Culture is the Foundation that creates a Family JEFFREY MEYERS,, CEO & Owner of DS Architecture, has a philosophy that keeps the firm together and attracts the best talent in the business. He’ll be humble and tell you all about the beginnings of DS Architecture came from his mentor and father figure, Dave Sommers. And he’d be right to do so. Jeffrey’s leadership and vision for DS Architecture is the reason they’ve grown while remaining small. His vision is to have DS Architecture be THE “Culture-Based Design Firm”. Interesting way to think about a business growing and remaining small, but that is exactly what’s happened at DS Architecture. During this interview we learn that DS Architecture is now working on more and bigger projects, the projects they want to work on, and making more money with 20 people than they were with 33 or 28 people. That is growing your business and remaining small. How do they do it??? They have established systems that drive them in the everyday effort to be better and serve their clients. They work smart and constantly look for inspiration.  Their 5 Core Values: Straightforward approach to who they are, why they do what they do, how they do it, and what they will produce for their clients. Jeff uses a unique idea to inspire his talented team; he creates a vacuum for them to eventually fill. He has found that if you look to inspire the team and ask them to think differently and for the long term, you must create a space for them to grow into. That vacuum is the firm creating the space for each team member to contribute to their own future. It’s a great way to empower your team and receive greatness out of each member. Through autonomy, authority, and accountability the DS Architecture team is constantly growing . . .but remaining small. Jeffrey Myers has been through the highs and lows of life. He is the example of what is possible with the right mindset and the ability to “mourn the old you”. Through failures and achievements. Through ups and downs, Jeffrey Myers navigates the successes of his life on his own terms. He is the one deciding what is success. And to be honest, that is the best and only way to define it . . .your own way!     Jeff recently visited Rid-All Green Partnership as part of the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) group for Cogence. The DEI group of Cogence spreads awareness of, provides access to, and complements external organizations who are committed to strengthening DEI, making Rid-All the perfect field trip! Rid-All turned an empty and forgotten land, known as the lost triangle in the east side of Cleveland, into an urban farm where we grow produce to bring healthy, local food to area institutions. Their mission consists of a community kitchen, composting, environment programs, and additional training. Big thanks to Rid-All for hosting Cogence, and all you do for our community!
