A core component of DSG Local's product suite is our Local Intelligence Report Among other data points, the report examines where visitors originate from and foot traffic volumes for specific business locations. With Halloween and the holidays approaching, we thought we would run Local Intelligence data for Peddler's Village, a beloved destination in Bucks County. Here are a few interesting insights: -Foot traffic grew from 1.4 million in 2022 to 1.6 million in 2023. -Interestingly, only 25% of visitors in 2023 were "local" (traveling within a 10-mile radius), while nearly 75% came from further away to experience the iconic scenery. -Since people do make the trip, the average dwell time at the location was 95 minutes. -33% of traffic occurs on Saturday. Yext has announced the addition of TikTok to its publisher network. Think what you will about TIkTok but there is no denying it has evolved into a major channel for brand discovery and engagement. Music Licensing has been a hot and controversial topic during this Presidential campaign with many artists pushing back on the use of their songs for political purposes. Similarly, the rules around using music in marketing is a common question our clients ask. That got us thinking… What should brands know about navigating music licensing for their marketing? Fortunately our VP of Business Development, Michael Gaydos has a strong background as a Music and Radio Producer so we decided to do a quick Q+A! Q: What is a good starting point for businesses who want to use music in their marketing? A: There are a number of pre-recorded production music libraries which feature songs that can be licensed for any matter of commercial use. This music is pre-cleared for use and allows an advertiser to manage the cost of the music in a commercial. Q: What steps should you take if you want to use a famous song in your marketing? A: If you are looking to use a famous song, the process can be very expensive. It requires contact with the publisher and recording owner and likely will need artist approval and writer approval. Pro Tip: Hire a consultant to reach out on your behalf, publishers, artists, and record companies receive thousands of requests for usage, and if your request isn't in a format that's perfectly clear, your request will likely get ignored. Q: Can businesses use famous tracks on social media? A: Social media streaming services make famous tracks available for personal use. If John Smith makes a video on TikTok, it may be within the guidelines of TikTok's agreement with performing rights organizations to use the song. However, this doesn't mean that John Smith's plumbing business falls under the same guidelines.
