🚀 MemoLens: Winners at DubHacks 2024! 🏆
I’m thrilled to share that my teammate, Syed Adil Husain, and I won 1st place in the AWS Gen-AI & Cloud Computing track at DubHacks 2024 with our project, MemoLens! 🎉
About the Project: MemoLens addresses real-world challenges faced by individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Our goal was to create a solution that helps users recognize familiar faces, stay connected with loved ones, and maintain independence. 💡
Our AI-powered assistant (Buzz), integrated with Vuzix M400 smart glasses, supports Alzheimer’s patients by offering helpful guidance, managing daily tasks, and providing reminders. Leveraging DeepFace for facial recognition, the system helps users stay connected with familiar faces, fostering a sense of independence and ease in their day-to-day interactions.
Building the Project:
🔍 Research & Development: We explored facial recognition and AI capabilities.
⚙️ Prototyping: Developed models, testing for accuracy and responsiveness.
👥 User Testing: Worked closely with caregivers and patients to improve the system.
Challenges We Overcame:
💻 DeepFace Integration: Ensuring real-time facial recognition using Flask.
🎤 Audio Handling: Efficiently processing spoken queries into actionable responses.
☁️ AWS S3: Secure audio storage and retrieval for real-time feedback.
🔧 Model Training: Sourcing diverse Alzheimer’s-specific datasets to train our model effectively.
Tech Stack:
AWS:
🔄 Elastic Transcoder: Converted audio files into formats optimized for playback on the smart glasses.
🗣️ Transcribe: Converted speech to text for voice interactions.
🗣️ Polly: Generated natural-sounding responses to user queries.
💾 S3: Securely stored audio and facial recognition data.
⚙️ Lambda: Managed backend functions and cloud communication.
🤖 Bedrock: Integrated AI models for facial recognition.

What We Learned: This project highlighted the importance of empathy in tech design. We learned that involving users in the process is essential to creating a solution that truly meets their needs. With MemoLens, we’ve proven that technology can offer hope and connection for Alzheimer’s patients. 💙
I would like to convey my appreciation to DubHacks, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and all the mentors who guided us. I would also like to express my gratitude to Atmadeep Sen of AWS for recognizing the true potential of our project during the judging period.
