As we continue our nostalgic journey through #DCI25Years, we celebrate another tech milestone from 1999: the standardization of Wi-Fi (802.11b). Wi-Fi untethered us from ethernet cables and reimagined connectivity, birthing a wireless internet revolution. The advent of 802.11b made it possible to access the web in coffee shops, libraries, and airports worldwide, fundamentally altering where and how we work and play (sometimes, for better or worse!). Continuing our #DCI25Years celebration, we dive into the second of our 25 pivotal tech developments from 1999 – the launch of Napster. 🎶🌐🎶 Napster revolutionized the music industry by popularizing peer-to-peer sharing of MP3 files. The platform transformed how we accessed and shared music, but it also sparked significant conversations and legal battles around copyright and digital media distribution. Eventually, these challenges led Napster to shut down. After selling its assets to various companies over the years, Napster is now a subscription-based music streaming service. Friday November 1, 2024 marks the 1 year Anniversary of the naming of the Costello College of Business and we will be celebrating by giving back and packing meals for members of our school community dealing with food insecurity. With the holidays coming up, the Patriot Pantry team has 4000 lbs. of food for us to bag - that is no small feat! We need your help! Simply fill out the attached form. Event takes place 11-1:30 on our Fairfax campus; with cake cutting and a naming celebration reception from 1:30 - 2. Volunteers will receive a Costello branded backpack. Currently students make up 57% of attendees, followed by faculty and staff at 28% of the total and alumni at 15%... What??
