DLC sent crews this past weekend to assist with power restoration efforts in Norton, Virginia, following the impacts of Hurricane Helene.   About 35-40 dedicated crew members and staff headed to western Virginia to help restore power to approximately 6,000 customers.   Thank you for your support in helping the region recover from this devastating storm! We’re continuing to think of everyone who has been impacted. Photo Credit - LG&E and KU Energy LLC

Did you know that, as an electric distribution company, DLC does not actually generate the electricity that powers your home and/or business? Some customers prefer to choose their own energy supplier, but for those who don’t, DLC procures energy for them. Customers who have DLC choose their energy supplier pay the Default Service Supply rate or the “Price to Compare” on their electric bill. All power generation costs are passed through directly to customers from energy suppliers, meaning that DLC does not profit from electric generation.   The default service rate is adjusted multiple times a year due to changes in the energy market. While we don’t control the price of our default rate, we’re here to help you understand the potential impacts to your bill and offer resources to help keep costs down.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ehtUWi2i.

Recently, Emily Phan-Gruber, our transportation electrification specialist attended the Clean Energy REVolution Tour which emphasizes the benefits of transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) and enhancing public transit systems. This initiative aims to significantly reduce carbon footprint, lower energy costs for residents and foster healthier communities. Emily highlighted that investing in clean transportation not only protects public health and the environment but also provides substantial long-term savings for local governments and consumers. By adopting EVs, municipalities can reduce fleet maintenance and fuel costs, enabling these savings to be reinvested in their communities. Climate Action Campaign DC

Recently, DLC has been hosting Electrical Hazard Awareness Sessions for first responders at various locations. These sessions are designed to help them effectively identify, protect and navigate situations around electrical equipment. During these sessions, crews provide valuable insights into the electrical system, the voltages present in the area and the hazards associated with dealing with live wires at a scene. Following the session, attendees have the opportunity to witness a demonstration on DLC’s Live Line trailer, showcasing safety scenarios. Our commitment to educating and empowering first responders enables them to make informed decisions, thereby prioritizing safety in all situations.
