In honor of the 2024 NAIA Football National Championship returning to Durham on December 21, we’re shouting out the NAIA ! The NAIA, or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics is based in Kansas City. Since 1937, the NAIA has provided programs that balance athletic championships with the college educational experience. Each year, more than 83,000 student-athletes in the NAIA compete in college sports, benefit from over $1.3 billion in scholarships, and vie for opportunities to participate in 29 national championships. The DSC creates economic and social impact by leading efforts to support, attract and promote sports in Durham, NC.
About us
The vision of the DSC is to engage the Durham community in supporting and promoting the sports culture that exists both historically and presently. We're working towards increasing the participation rates of local sporting events, attracting national event owners to bring new events to Durham, and further developing the local sports community to make sure it is accessible and beneficial to all. We’re newer to Durham, but this isn’t our first rodeo; we’ve hosted local, regional and national championships and we build experiences for event owners that make an impact, encourage growth and benefit stakeholders. It doesn’t hurt that Durham is the City of Champions. We’re a homerun for event planners, families and athletes, and we’re a day’s drive or an hour-long flight away from half the U.S. population. Come for the competition. Stay to play. We’re here to make sure it all goes smoothly. Our team at the Durham Sports Commission is constantly asking, “How can we help?” We encourage you to schedule a meeting with our staff to talk through all the ways we can assist you in planning your event or finding new ways to build a sports culture in Durham.

The One Team, One Durham Fund (1T1D) supports youth in Durham with grants awarded to local nonprofits to help off-set the costs of camp fees, sports lessons, registration fees, sports equipment and sports travel costs. As the cost of youth sports participation continues to rise, the DSC considers 1T1D as an important step toward leading the community’s efforts to allow for greater access to the benefits of sport.
