US Naval Academy Founded (1845) On October 10, 1845, President James Polk and Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft, established the U.S. Naval School in Annapolis Maryland. The name has since been changed to the U.S. Naval Academy. Midshipmen who graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy are commissioned to a minimum of five years active duty as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy or Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Gold Star Mother’s Day https://buff.ly/32XReHT On this day we recognize all of the mothers who have lost a child while serving in the Armed Forces. The gold star is a symbol that dates back to WWI signifying a loved one has died in service. Our prayers are with all of the Gold Star mothers and their families today.
