About us
Founded in 1978, Eagle Bluff is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As a year-round environmental learning center, we provide accredited education programs & outdoor adventures to over 16,000 children, adults, and families each year. We are located in rural southeastern Minnesota, just a few miles from the small historic town of Lanesboro in Fillmore County. Our campus is a two hour drive from the Twin Cities, 45 minutes from Rochester, 45 minutes from Winona, and one hour from La Crosse, WI. For the students, adults and families that visit Eagle Bluff, their experiences are more than just another school field trip or walk through the woods. By participating in direct observation, interaction, engagement and exploration of the environment, students and visitors connect with nature on another level, cultivating a relationship with and deeper understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on learning in nature, we aim for people to leave Eagle Bluff with experiences that stick with them and inspire them to become lifelong stewards of the environment by: - Fostering a sense of respect, stewardship and community - Imparting life skills such as teamwork and problem-solving - Increasing environmental awareness & academic literacy - Promoting positive outdoor experiences, and - Sparking curiosity and appreciation for the natural world

🌲 Vote YES for Minnesota's Great Outdoors on November 5, 2024! 🗳️ Over 30 years ago, Minnesotans voted to dedicate a portion of state lottery proceeds to conservation. That decision has provided over $1 billion in funding for the Great Outdoors! This November, it’s time to vote to renew that commitment. Vote YES to protect: 💧 Clean drinking water 🦅 Wildlife habitats 🌍 Clean air quality 🏞️ Access to parks and trails A "YES” vote will secure continued funding for our lakes, wildlife, and parks. Leaving the question blank will count as a "No," putting critical environmental protections at risk. 🗳️ Look for this important question on the front of your ballot: "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to protect drinking water sources and the water quality of lakes, rivers, and streams; conserve wildlife habitat and natural areas; improve air quality; and expand access to parks and trails by extending the transfer of proceeds from the state-operated lottery to the environment and natural resources trust fund, and to dedicate the proceeds for these purposes?" ✅ Vote YES! Let’s continue protecting Minnesota’s cherished natural spaces for future generations! 👉 Learn more: mngreatoutdoors.org 🚨 Spread the word! We are proud to announce that Colleen Foehrenbacher, Eagle Bluff’s Executive Director, has been honored with the 2024 Outstanding New Leader Award by the ANCA (Association of Nature Center Administrators). This national award is presented annually to honor individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and innovation in the nature center and outdoor school professions. Since stepping into her role in April 2020, amidst the onset of the pandemic, Colleen has steered Eagle Bluff through unprecedented challenges. Her leadership has ensured the continued success of our Outdoor School, despite the hurdles posed by COVID-19 restrictions. Thanks to her vision, Eagle Bluff has achieved significant milestones, including the introduction of a new high ropes course and the successful launch of our Nature Preschool. Beyond Eagle Bluff, Colleen continues to champion the Outdoor School for All campaign, advocating for multi-day outdoor education experiences for middle school students statewide. Colleen will be formally recognized at the ANCA Overnight Camp & Outdoor School Summit, January 10-14, in North East, Maryland. Congratulations, Colleen, on this well-deserved honor! Your leadership inspires us all. ——— ANCA (Association of Nature Center Administrators) #leadership #awardwinning #outdoorschool #environmentaleducation #MN
