Writing Through: A Creative Workshop Series for Transformational Collective Healing Canadian ECOPs Aneri Garg and Khairunnisa (Inda) Intiar are hosting “Writing Through,” a 5-part creative writing workshop series in a space dedicated to intersectional femmes and gender-expansive folks of Colour in the climate/ocean/environment sector starting 4 September 2024. What's the format? Five online workshops, each 1.5 hour session (including break time) running on Wednesday evenings from 4 September - 2 October (with an optional 6th session on 9 October). Each session starts at 4:30pm PT (UTC -7) / 8:30pm AT (UTC -3). What to expect? In this five-part writing and reflection series, participants are invited to embark on a journey of reflection, healing, and empowerment across both individual and systemic scales. BIPOC folks historically and contemporarily face distinct and disproportionate exclusion within environmental spaces, stemming from a complex interplay of systemic injustices and intersectional power dynamics. This workshop series will explore themes of systemic racism, colonialism, ableism and inequality that are uniquely experienced by participants, and how ongoing marginalization perpetuates systemic environmental injustice. Through the lens of interconnectedness, community, and the restoration of People and Place, "Writing Through" seeks to cultivate a space where the voices of the global majority are honored, valued, connected, and empowered, knowing this is where sustainable solutions are rooted from. ✍️ Learn more and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/e9uN4DKq

📣 We are delighted to share our new series of ECOP stories, featuring Early Career Professionals who are working towards each of the 10 UN Ocean Decade Challenges. 🔟 We are starting with Challenge 10 - recently renamed as: "Restore Society’s Relationship with the Ocean”. This challenge focusses on the human-ocean relationship and aims to ensure that societal and ocean connections are improved upon, and that there is increased motivation, capability, and opportunity for people across all sectors of society to make decisions, and behave in ways that ensure a healthy ocean. 🚙 This year, Challenge 10’s working group produced a white paper which recognizes the different barriers, enablers, and motivators to pro-ocean behaviour, along with four key drivers that users can use to influence and restore society’s relationship with the ocean - (1) Multiple Knowledge Systems, (2) Communications, (3) Education, and (4) Cultural Connections. ✍️ The following ECOP stories from Evander Nhaúle, Martina G., rose Kirigo and Subhashi Tania de Silva are a testament to how ECOPs are working directly in this field and adding momentum to societal transformation.
