We are thrilled to celebrate our continued partnership and collaboration with Google.org and Google Research on the FireSat program. Their most recent contribution of $13M makes our FireSat protoflight launch in 2025 a reality. Protoflight's data will help prepare operations and train fire models using #MachineLearning and #AI almost a full year ahead of our first operational launch of satellites in 2026. Today’s announcement marks a significant milestone and another step towards transforming the way we interact with fire. As fires become more intense, and spread faster, we believe that radical collaboration is key to driving much needed innovation in fire management and climate action. 🔥 We are proud of our partnerships and look forward to more achievements together! 🤝🎉 https://lnkd.in/ea-JqGfY #FireSat #Google #wildfires

Want to learn about the transformative effect we believe satellite data can have on improving our understanding and management of wildfires around the world?🌏🛰🔥 Then check out tomorrow's webinar hosted by our friends over at the Climate & Wildfire Institute - "From Software to Satellites: Harnessing Big Data for Wildfire Resilience". Dr. Cathy Olkin will discuss our FireSat program and the hardware developed by Muon Space. FireSat was purpose-built to deliver targeted fire observations directly to those on the frontline protecting communities from climate-induced disaster fires and to the fire scientists helping develop climate resilience strategies. #wildfire #climateresilience #firetech
Last call to register for this week’s webinar – “From Software to Satellites: Harnessing Big Data for Wildfire Resilience” – on Wednesday, 8/28 at 10 AM PT. From Muon Space's FireSat constellation to Vibrant Planet's Land Tender software, there’s immense investment happening right now to drive forward industry-leading solutions that will ease efforts to improve wildfire resilience on-the-ground. Join our webinar to learn more about how two industry experts – Dr. Cathy Olkin, VP of Infrared Missions and Data at Muon Space, and Dr. Mike Koontz, Lead Scientist, Ecological Modeling & Climate Change at Vibrant Planet – are navigating the successes and challenges of managing and sharing big data and technology across local, national, and global scales. Each year "wildfire season" begins earlier and lasts longer. Fires are already intensifying across the Northern Hemisphere this season. New research from Nature Ecology & Evolution, 2024 (https://lnkd.in/eWam7p37) found that 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟯. This research leverages 21 years of NASA satellite observations to help us better understand the rapidly changing dynamics in this new era of wildfire. 🔥 Wildfire is a natural part of our environment, and slow-moving understory fires play a crucial role in the health of fire-adapted ecosystems. However, extreme canopy fires and megafire events have profound climate, economic, and social impacts. In our own Wildfire Impact Report 2024, published with Mandala, we found that in the US alone, wildfires directly cost $11.3 billion in actual dollars spent annually, with related economic losses estimated to be as much as $415 billion. At Earth Fire Alliance, we believe a united global response to the wildfire crisis is possible. Through fast action and collaboration, we want to reframe our shared role with fire as stewards of our environment. 🤝 #wildfire #environment #Earth #NASA

We are excited to announce the launch of Earth Fire Alliance. We are a global non-profit coalition committed to delivering transformative real-time data and insights from all wildfires on Earth. We are founded on the belief that high-fidelity data, equitably accessible on a global scale, will transform humanity’s collective approach and relationship to fire. 🔥🍃 While fire is a natural part of our planet’s ecology, wildfires are changing, and rapidly. Extreme wildfires are projected to increase up to 33% by 2050, and urgent action is needed now. Through FireSat, a first of its kind constellation of more than 50 satellites focused specifically on fire, fire conditions, and fire’s ecological effects, we will be able to revolutionize wildfire detection. 🛰 The coalition will be driven by the organizing team, which includes Ann Kapusta, Brian Collins, Karen O'Connor, Keith J. Masback. We are also pleased to announce our new Board members Ann Bartuska, Christopher Van Arsdale, Christopher Anthony who bring a wealth of experience across forestry and ecosystem health, computational programming, and fire prevention. We thank our partners for their dedication to our mission: Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Google.org, Environmental Defense Fund, Minderoo Foundation, Muon Space 🤝 To find out more about us, or join our mission: www.earthfirealliance.org Read our announcement: https://lnkd.in/g_2EDFvH #EarthFireAlliance #wildfires #FireSat #climate #climateresilience
