This site presents some truly extreme challenges in terrain, but we’re ready to deliver innovative solutions to make it a success. 🏗️ Project Timeline: • Start Date: March 2024 • Projected Completion (Phase I): Spring 2025 🌍 Tackling Extreme Elevation Changes: The site’s drastic elevation changes are no small feat, requiring walls over 20’ in height – some reaching an impressive 76 feet! 🌟 Exciting News!🌟 We’re thrilled to introduce our newest team member, Susan! With over 15 years of experience in the design and engineering of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) precast panel walls, Susan is an expert in both steel and geosynthetic soil reinforcements. Susan holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering from Virginia Tech. David Gill and I just got back from Burnsville, NC. We were able to meet with county commissioner Sandi Norton. If anyone wants to donate directly to Yancey County, their citizens could use it. This is a rural county north of Asheville and one of the hardest hit areas of WNC. This area is about 30 miles from where I grew up. https://zurl.co/VGFI They need more supplies and specific items. They also need monetary donations since they will be housing people and providing basic needs for an unknown amount of time. The primary donation site has a lot of bottled water but they need many other items. For example, when we were unloading, one of the first responders was asking for poison ivy soap/medication, flip flops, dry boots and soaks for the first responders and volunteers. They are wading through creeks and streams from daylight to dark with chain saws cutting trees and brush covered in poison ivy to reach residents that no longer have road access because the roads are gone. Supplies and medications are being brought to residents with ATVs and mules. When the first responders get back to their base camp they have no other dry footwear and since most have only one pair of boots; they start the next day with wet boots, socks, etc. After a week or more, they are staring to get a lot of problems with their feet. Also, most are dealing with poison ivy rashes.
