✊🏽 Strength in Sovereignty: Celebrating Indigenous Heritage 🌱 This National Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate the knowledge and resilience of Indigenous communities who have protected lands and waters long before the environmental movement began. At Earthworks, we’re committed to advocating alongside Indigenous-led efforts for clean air and clean water and preserving sacred spaces threatened by industrial pollution. 🌊✨ We support Indigenous leaders standing on the frontlines of environmental protection. Their stewardship and cultural knowledge are essential to preserving our shared resources and natural heritage. Let’s commit to honoring Indigenous voices and amplifying their calls for justice and accountability, working toward a world where every community thrives on healthy, protected lands. 🌎🧡 #RespectTheSacred #IndigenousRights #ProtectNativeLands

🎃Spooky research alert🎃 Despite misleading names like "natural," "responsibly sourced," or "certified," methane gas is a threat to our communities and the climate. RESEARCH uncovers the truth behind schemes to “certify” gas via third-party companies, allowing fossil fuel producers to claim reduced methane emissions from their operations. EARTHWORKS and Oil Change International found: ❌ Gas certification companies use unreliable monitors that regularly miss pollution events ❌ Fossil fuel companies rarely take action to address pollution even when it is detected ❌ The oil and gas industry sees certification as an opportunity to increase profits. Gas certification threatens climate goals by promoting false data and enabling gas companies to continue or expand operations under the guise of reduced emissions. 🎃 Dangerous Deals: Corporate Polluters Are the Real Horror! 👻 The real terror is lurking in boardrooms, where corporations like First Quantum Minerals put profits over people. Fueled by greed, they exploit resources, leaving communities to face devastating environmental and health impacts. When governments allow Big Mining to operate unchecked, our communities and ecosystems pay the price. 🧛♂️💸 As Panamanian communities stand up against mining pollution and fight to protect their land, it’s up to all of us to demand accountability and respect for their sovereignty. This Halloween, let’s expose these real-life horror stories and push back against policies that let polluters dodge responsibility. 🎃 Ghastly Greed: Corporate Polluters Are the Real Horror! 👻 The Stibnite Gold Project threatens Idaho’s clean air, water, and Indigenous treaty rights, risking mercury and arsenic pollution that could devastate local ecosystems and communities. Despite these dangers, regulators granted the project a permit, ignoring vital health and environmental standards. 💰😷 This Halloween, let’s expose unchecked corporate pollution that sacrifices people and the planet for profit. Together, we’re fighting back, demanding accountability and real protection for Idaho’s land, wildlife, and communities. Join us in standing up to corporate greed! 🌎✊ 📎➡️ https://lnkd.in/gB2gFPZR #ProtectIdaho #PollutersPayUp #CorporateAccountability

🚨VIP: Very Important Problem!🚨 Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, trapping ~80% more heat than CO2. Yet, 100s of 1000s of abandoned oil&gas wells around the country leak methane, harming communities. In Pennsylvania, dense forests hide a sobering reality: low-producing and abandoned wells sit mere feet away from homes, schools, and other structures. Plugging them can be expensive, costing $100K on average. Tackling the problem of abandoned wells is not only expensive, it can be contentious. As one impacted resident said, “I don’t want to slam anybody’s livelihood, but I also don’t want my health and my children’s health to be in jeopardy.” WATCH: https://bit.ly/3YCyT2F Via PBS News

🚫 Protect Our Oceans, Not Corporate Profits! 💰 We've partnered with Institute for Policy Studies, Inequality Org, and CIEL to bring attention to a critical issue: the international arbitration system is letting corporations undermine environmental protections. Mexico recently faced a costly ruling for denying a permit for harmful seabed mining, threatening marine life and coastal communities. 🐋🌊 This case exposes how corporate interests often outweigh efforts to protect our planet. It’s time for reform. Read the full article to learn more about this critical fight to protect our oceans and communities. 🌍✊ 📎➡️ https://lnkd.in/g4PhZpGc #ProtectTheOcean #MiningJustice #ClimateAction
