About us
ETEC is an independent, regional, non-profit membership organization created in the early 1970's, dedicated to supporting the federal government's missions in East Tennessee, as well as seeking new ways to create prosperity, promote regional development, and explore opportunities for growth. CONVENE ETEC hosts a membership meeting every Friday featuring programs from experts in a variety of professional fields. Members have an opportunity to network with federal senior management, local business leaders, and elected officials. ETEC also hosts a number of meetings to bring partners together to promote growth and support missions. CATALYZE ETEC unites members to promote singular messages on critical issues and common missions. CHAMPION ETEC is strong advocate of regional initiatives in STEM education, advanced materials technology, and next generation energy development and deployment. ETEC interacts and educates our local, state, and national elected officials on key issues and projects to support the federal missions in the region. CELEBRATE ETEC annually honors members of the Oak Ridge community with two awards, the Muddy Boot and Postma Young Professional Medal, which serve as a tribute to individuals who make East Tennessee a stronger region through their hard work and community activities.

NOW's second panel on Day 2 was the Innovative Applications of Nuclear Technologies moderatored by Julie Ezold, ORNL/DOE; and Lloyd Jollay, BGS. Panelists included: Ivis Chaple Gore, UTK; Brad Johnson, ORNL; Christo Liebenberg, LIS Technologies; and Clint Mori, UCOR. They discussed isotopes and 4 interesting applications for nuclear in the medical, battery, fuel, and clean up sectors. #ETECNOW2024 #ETECNOW #NOW2024

The first of four panels for NOW Day 2 is the Policy and Regulation Landscape at state, local, and national levels. Peter Hastings, Kairos Power, moderated a panel that included Rob Taylor, NRC; Molly Cripps, TDEC; Amy Fitzgerald, City of Oak Ridge; Terry Frank, Anderson County Mayor; and, Ben Holtzman, NEI. The second Atomic Insights session was focused on Partnering with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) with speaker and moderator Peter Hastings, Kairos Power; Rob Taylor, NRC; and, Jennifer Wheeler, TRISO-X. Peter reviewed Kairos' process and status on their NRC applications and announced to a round of applause that Kairos Power broke ground for the Hermes Demonstration Reactor Project on their site at the historic East TN Technology Park! #ETECNOW #NOW2024 #ETECNOW2024

The NOW Conference Nuclear Fuel Cycle panel featured moderators Peter Newby with MS Technology and Lloyd Jollay with Boston Government Services. Panelists included Larry Cutlip, Centeus Energy; Dan Brown, TRISO-X; Micah Hackett, Kairos Power; and, Brian Ade, Ultra Safe Nuclear. They talked about their company's role in the fuel cycle, the status of their projects, and the design and development they are undertaking.

Our first Atomic Insight session, NOW's version of a fireside chat was 'The Future Begins with Cleanup'. Nuclear energy consultant Adam DeMella, DOE OREM Manager, Jay Mullis and UCOR CEO Ken Rueter discussed how partnerships between contractors and community make a difference and most importantly how cleanup enables critical mission work and economic development for the community. They also talked about the value of a qualified workforce and the need for more and expanded apprenticeship programs.

Day one of ETEC's NOW Conference began with Governor Bill Lee welcoming attendees to the conference via video. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann gave a brief legislative update and emphasized the importance of TVA's Clinch River Project. We heard from featured speakers Brian Smith, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactors, Office of Nuclear Energy for U.S. DOE, about DOE's priorities for advanced reactors; and, Brandon Gibson, COO for the State of Tennessee who talked about the excitement around nuclear energy on the state level. #ETECNOW2024 #ETECNOW #NOW2024
