If you're an average selling professional, you may want to take a golf lesson: A Wall Street Journal article today suggests. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, not everybody is a golfer in the world of professional selling, so this may not apply to you. But there is a more overarching message here: The majority of selling professionals are not practicing or improving their selling skills or their short game. A few months ago, I posted this article you see below that received a lot of impressions and also was a wake-up call for sales managers that realized their sales teams are lagging behind in proactive training pursuit, as well as revealing a weak link in the company's commitment to feature on-going sales training. So today, The WSJ posts an article talking about how good golfers can use their talents to open more doors and conversations as a sales professional using golf as a way to create meetings. Easier said than done. And again, I remind the readers of the stats showing the majority of selling professionals are not studying to learn their profession and spend more of their money and time hitting balls off property and buying $600 drivers that will never fix the swing they are using than they are investing in sales training materials. If you are not a golfer, let alone a better than average golfer, not to worry. If you start taking your profession seriously and study the psychology of selling and persuasion, you will end up making more money than the single digit handicapper that has no clue how to create a selling strategy but believe their "schmoozing on the course will win business."
