In working with school districts and superintendents around the country, there is much I have learned. This weekend, as I worked with East Orange School District, NJ, I was reminded of a powerful lesson: Vision is a free, transformative asset all leaders must possess.
Christopher Irving, Ed.D. is the new superintendent in East Orange School District, and he has his work cut out for him as an urban superintendent. He is dealing with a challenging budget, the need to improve achievement, challenging infrastructure, and a relatively new, yet energetic school board. Despite these typical issues that urban school districts face, Dr. Irving brings a powerful, compelling vision and a "yes we can and yes we will" attitude to his work. He has developed a clear, compelling vision for moving the district forward, despite challenges, and understands the power of collective impact. Vision + Clear Communication + Collaboration=Positive Collective Impact.
Keep an eye on East Orange School District.
