We’re proud to be working with Oakland Unified School District and dedicated literacy partners to uplift Oakland students.
What an incredible day at the fifth annual Workday Charity Classic, benefitting Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation! Ayesha and I are deeply grateful to Workday, Co-Founder Aneel Bhusri, and everyone who joined us in support of our mission. Thanks to this year’s event, the funds raised will directly support Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.’s initiative to provide 10,000 elementary students with essential literacy resources. We’re also proud to announce a $25 million commitment over the next five years to offer one-on-one tutoring for Oakland students who are most in need. The literacy gap in Oakland is significant, with nearly half of elementary students reading below grade level. Our research, paired with successful tutoring pilots in 18 OUSD schools, shows that tutoring can make a measurable impact. In fact, during the pilot, nearly 600 students gained an average of two reading levels in less than 30 weeks, with 85% of kindergarteners closing their reading gap. This is more than just about raising literacy levels—it’s about giving Oakland students the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life. Together, we can continue to support and uplift these incredible students. #eatlearnplaypartner #workdaypartner Photos: Noah Graham/Getty Images

Grateful to The Oaklandside for highlighting the impact of our recent schoolyard builds. As Melrose Leadership Academy Principal Jonathan Mayer perfectly put it: "A new playground is life-changing. It transforms the school. When you make this a fun, vibrant place to be, conflicts go down because kids are just happier."

1,2,3,4,5! We’re thrilled to share the completion of our fifth schoolyard build of the year at Oakland's Bridges Academy. This marks the 14th schoolyard we’ve transformed in partnership with KABOOM! and Oakland Unified School District, with three more planned this year! Highlights of the new Bridges Academy schoolyard: 🌈 Kid-designed play structure 🌱 Upgraded garden spaces 📚 Little Town Library 🏀 Multi-sport court ⚽️ New soccer goals 🎨 Colorful new murals Our Bridges Academy build follows the work that Trust for Public Land recently completed to provide additional green space at the school including 54 new trees, a shade structure, turf play area, and nature play area with outdoor classroom. Thank you to our incredible partners KABOOM! and Oakland Unified School District, the continued and generous support of Workday and Kaiser Permanente the wonderful Bridges Academy community, and our entire village of volunteers and supporters! 📷 Noah Graham

Did you know that adding shade structures and trees to playgrounds can reduce playspace temperatures by up to 30 degrees? That's why we are working with KABOOM! and Oakland Unified School District to ensure that shade-giving features are added to every schoolyard we build. #playspaceequity
