Land Without Landlords

About us

The East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperative (EB PREC) is a worker-cooperative organizing with tenants & community groups across the East Bay to take land and housing off of the speculative market for good, creating permanently affordable housing and commercial spaces. EB PREC is working to reverse the harm caused to historically disenfranchised communities through its practices of collective ownership, self-determination, and community-led development. Our movement is People Of Color (POC)-centered and focused on maintaining and creating deeply diverse communities in the face of rampant speculation and rising real estate prices. #LandWithoutLandlords #RestorativeEconomics #HealPeoplePower

  • Calling all architects! Esther's facade & interior needs YOU! We've published a request for proposals for the interior and facade design of our Esther's Orbit Room Cultural Revitalization Project. Our goal is to revitalize this culturally significant structure, ensuring it retains its identity for many years to come. Help us honor 7th Streets History, while setting the visual tone for its future. The Esther's Orbit Room building is a Potential Designated Historic Property (PDHP) built between 1899 and 1903, and the cornerstone of our long-term vision to revitalize the 7th Street Commercial Corridor in West Oakland. Esther's will house a restaurant and bar, commercial kitchen, art gallery, movement studio, and permanently affordable residences above.

  • 20 Member Owners came together last week at the Barn on West Oakland's 7th St., where we practiced co-governance within our Cooperative through our Community Owner Circle. Our community-centered, community-controlled, and community-led approach to governance demonstrates how democracy goes beyond the ballot box - we must facilitate our own spaces for democratic, collective decision-making to cultivate the power necessary to change the political and physical landscape of our neighborhoods. Anyone rooted in the East Bay can become a Member/Co-Owner of EB PREC and contribute to the direction of our cooperative as it works to de-commodify and liberate land and housing for historically disenfranchised communities. Visit ebprec.org/membership to learn more!
