As an independent practice, ECHO delivers the highest quality care in a cost-effective manner. One of the ways we do this is lower cost of medications, including chemotherapy and infusions. A study in HealthAffairs found that prices paid by Blue Cross Blue Shield health plans in hospital outpatient departments were DOUBLE those paid in physician offices for biologics, chemotherapies, and other infused cancer drugs. Shifting cancer infusion care to non hospital settings, provides a large cost savings to insurers that can translate into big cost savings for patients.

One of the best ways to support local, independent #communityoncology is by inviting your elected representatives to visit your practice. On Wednesday, June 12 at 12 p.m. ET, Chelsea Klock, RN, OCN, Hematology-Oncology Associates of Central New York, will sit down with COA’s Director of Patient Advocacy and Education Rose Gerber, MS, to discuss one of the best ways to do that: the Sit in My Chair program. The Sit in My Chair program puts policymakers into the patient’s seat, taking them through the daily routine of a patient receiving treatment. Each representative gets to hear from patients and providers about the experience of treatment, why community oncology is the preferred setting for cancer treatment, and how treatment can be impeded by pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, and other middlemen. https://lnkd.in/ejXK32YN
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Policymakers Experiencing the Patient Journey with Sit in My Chair: A CPAN Advocacy Chat. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
