What a month it's been! It's amazing to witness the remarkable work that #EGFellows are doing in NYC and beyond.
In just this month, I had the honor of seeing three Echoing Green Fellows in action in New York! In early June, 2015 Fellow Daquan Oliver's organization WeThrive co-hosted a Young Sharks pitch competition with the NYC Dept. of Youth & Community Development. Incredible middle and high school students presented their ideas for social change, including immigrant support, lowering recidivism rates, providing mental healthcare for students, career readiness, and more. Then I had the opportunity to attend a private screening of “Kicking Balls” co-hosted by 2012 Fellow Ajaita S. and Oscar-winning filmmaker Guneet Monga. The documentary tells the powerful story of 200 young girls who are child brides from rural Rajasthan, finding their voices and fighting for their rights through a soccer club. And last week, I attended Good Call NYC's Breakfast Briefing at Deutsche Bank, hearing from 2018 Fellow Jelani Anglin and his team, supporters, and advocates about the impactful work they're doing to provide early access legal support in New York and beyond. When we talk about connection to the work, this is what it looks and feels like! Being in these spaces is a fresh reminder of why I do what I do.
