Caring for people and the planet through sustainable urban agriculture and community building.
About us
Founded in 2014, Econautics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which originally promoted sustainability in the private sector through research, education, and advising. Today, Econautics is evolving to establish our first sustainability demonstration site in Tarrant County. Our goal for this evolution is to address environmental, health and economic disparities prevalent in under resourced areas by exploring, growing, studying and teaching sustainable agriculture practices. Our vision is to create a future where all children grow up with access to an abundance of diverse and nutritious foods, as well as the knowledge and skills to steward Earth’s natural resources for generations to come. Our 💚 goes out to everyone impacted by the devastating #HurricaneHelene in North Carolina and surrounding states. The loss of life and property is overwhelming, with entire communities left completely devastated. The agriculture industry also took a major hit, and US food systems will be dealing with the consequences for years to come. Now is the time to start growing our food at home or at shared community spaces. It’s time to repurpose lawns and allow Victory Gardens to make a comeback. We need to work with our neighbors to collaborate on these efforts so that we can share, sell or trade any surplus of food to help those experiencing hardships. And we need to do it all in a sustainable way in order to restore the sensitive ecosystems that give us healthy soil and clean water necessary for food production to flourish. https://lnkd.in/gwX7uzug PS - Consider helping our neighbors impacted by Hurricane Helene by donating blood, money and other resources to the American Red Cross or any of the nonprofits on the Charity Navigator list here: https://lnkd.in/gB7KTFgU

Shout out to UT Southwestern Medical Center’s #foodasmedicine program for training future #healthcare #leaders on the importance of #nutrition and #foodaccess, as well as providing #culinary #education to the next generation of healthcare #professionals. Check out these words from Program Director Milette Siler, MBA-HC, RDN, LD, CCMS: “Food is a shared experience, and we can use the culinary medicine program to truly empower people to improve their relationship with food,” Siler says. “Not everybody’s on the same playing field, and we are doing everything that we can within the scope of our program to promote access. We believe that delicious, nutritious, accessible food should be for everybody.” During my time at the North Texas Food Bank and at Parkland Health Foundation, I was privileged to help raise funds in support of critical work to increase food access as well as nutrition education. Econautics is an extension of these efforts that also considers how the health of the earth where food is grown, as well as how food is prepared, ultimately impacts both nutritional value and long-term health outcomes.
