Look at this swirling beauty! 🤩 Starting from depolymerized PET waste, our partners from the Biochemical Engineering Group BIOENG PT from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa were able to obtain polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs)! The video is showing how PHA precipitates during the purification process! 🎦 PHAs are a type of #bioplastic that has been gaining attention for its environmental benefits. PHA is produced by bacteria as a way to store #energy. This makes it a natural and #biodegradable plastic, breaking down into harmless products like water and carbon dioxide when disposed of properly. Unlike traditional plastics made from petroleum, #PHA can fully decompose in soil or water, which helps reduce pollution and waste. In 2024, the largest science outreach public event European Researchers' Night took place in 25 countries counting more than 1.5 million visitors! In Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹 our partners from the Biochemical Engineering Group BIOENG PT from NOVA School of Science and Technology (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) in Portugal presented the EcoPlastiC project as part of the exhibition “Bioeconomy in action: transforming wastes into valuable products”.
