A big shout out to the finance department of the Cleveland Clinic! 34 of their staff volunteered to clean up the outside of Harper's Pointe, EDEN's PSH apartment building on West 25th Street. In spite of the heat, they worked hard to clean up the yard, laid mulch, beautified the landscaping, and prepared the tenants' vegetable garden for the winter. We really appreciate their hard work. Thank you to Abigail Smith, Brett Ambrozic, Brody Coyne, Chris Onusko, Chris Tosi, Colin Signs, Connor Spoonmore, Cory Guy, Daniel Biron, Diana Warren, Diane Thompson, Elizabeth Hipps, Gerald Mullin, Hardik Patel, Hunter Perry, Jeff Ravas, Jerry Peiffer, Judy Mualem, Keagan Armitage, Laura Chodak, Lauren Lowden, Lillian Chen, Madeline Bernard, Matthew Washburn, Michael Bilardo, Michael White, Nicholas Solar, Raymond Kirmeyer, Sean McCullough, Thomas Kasper, Todd Underwood, Valeri Audino, Vurned Stilgenbauer, and Wendy Conway! EDEN has recently transitioned to a new software management system which has greatly impacted departments across the agency. Compounding those challenges were the power outages experienced after the August 6th storms. As a result, the organization needs to pause some of its daily actions in order to catch up on work and focus on areas impacted by these events. On Thursday and Friday, August 22 and 23, our Rental Assistance Department is going to suspend some of their typical activities in order to catch up on work that was impacted by the conversion and power outage that has affected our participants and property owners. During this time, staff will not be available for appointments, calls, or other communications. Some inspections will also be part of the pause to so that we can get that portion of the system updated. EDEN will continue to process work orders, payments, inspections, special assistance applications, and property management functions, Therefore, if you have an urgent issue related to rental assistance, please contact our front desk staff at 216-961-9690 for assistance and they will connect you with someone who can assist you during these two days. Our Finance Department will then suspend their normal operations on Monday and Tuesday, August 26 and 27. If you have an urgent matter related to Finance, contact EDEN’s main number and they will connect you to someone who can assist you. We understand that transitions like this can cause disruptions, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through this necessary phase. Once fully implemented, our new system will allow us to streamline services, respond more quickly, and enhance the overall experience for everyone we work with. We're confident that these improvements will greatly benefit all of our participants and partners moving forward. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to resuming our regular operations and providing you with enhanced service.

What to do When the Power Goes Out: Mental Health Edition On Tuesday, August 6, at least two tornadoes struck Northeast Ohio leaving thousands without power, including our own offices at the ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County. As our dedicated team waits on service restoration, with many of us continuing to work behind the scenes to serve the people of Cuyahoga County, we wanted to share a few timely tips for maintaining mental health during this time. 1) Stop wishing (or wondering when) the power will come back on. For the first few hours of a power outage, it's easy to feel helpless. Counting down the minutes can be tempting but ultimately unhelpful. Filling downtime with other activities can make the wait more bearable. 2) Get back to the basics. Focus on regular daily activities. Even without power, it's possible to take a dog for a walk, read, journal, or tidy up. These routine tasks can provide a sense of normalcy and reduce anxiety. 3)  Reconsider how you normally spend your time. A power outage is an opportunity to reflect on daily habits. How much time is spent on screens versus other activities? When someone can't rely on technology, they may realize how much time they spend on social media or TV. This awareness can lead to positive changes. 4) Do that thing you never have time for. Use downtime to tackle a long-overdue task. Whether it's exercise, journaling, cleaning, or creative pursuits, a power outage can be a chance to make progress on personal goals. 5)  Talk to your neighbors. Feeling isolated during a power outage is common. Connecting with neighbors can provide support and companionship. Sharing experiences and laughter can improve morale. 6)  Do something that makes you feel productive and fulfilled. Even without power, there are ways to stay active and productive. Cleaning, organizing, or outdoor chores can boost mood and energy levels. As we navigate this situation together, we encourage you to prioritize your mental well-being. If you need additional support, please call or text 988, the 24-hour Suicide Prevention, Mental Health/Addiction Crisis, Information and Referral Hotline operated by our provider, FrontLine Service. You can also chat at 988lifeline.org/chat Stay safe, Scott Source: Tips were adopted from an article originally published on the Thrive Works Blog. https://lnkd.in/giGaV3mF

As the incredibly strong storms went through Northeast Ohio last night, many residents lost power. Cuyahoga Job and Family Services (CJFS) expects to receive many Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) replacement requests today and in the coming days. Families and/or individuals reporting a loss of food that was purchased with SNAP benefits due to a power outage of four hours or more are entitled to a benefit replacement: • The assistance group has ten days to report the loss orally or in writing. • The JFS 07222, “Statement Requesting Food Assistance Replacement” must be submitted to CJFS within ten days of the loss or within ten days of reporting the loss to CJFS, and must be received prior to us issuing replacement benefits. • The amount of the replacement is based on the amount of food that was lost, as reported on the JFS 07222, up to a maximum of one month’s allotment. • Please remember that information already known to the agency regarding areas that have experienced a power outage of four hours or more can be used as collateral contact, including news reports, school closings, or local websites and is to be documented in the case record (journal notes). Today we have news reports of over 200,000 residents without power in Cuyahoga County. Currently verification is not needed. • Please access the JFS 07222, “Statement Requesting Food Assistance Replacement Form” from the Health and Human Services website / CJFS division page at Form Library (cuyahogacounty.gov) We ask for your patience and assistance as we serve customers to replace their SNAP benefits. We also have been impacted with the power outage, as many of our staff are without power and our working through contingency plans. We encourage you to follow us on social media for ongoing communications.
