🌍 #EDGEBuildings Country Spotlight: Egypt 🎉 We are thrilled to announce that the Grand Egyptian Museum has been awarded #EDGEAdvanced Certification from IFC - International Finance Corporation. With the crucial support from SECO Economic Cooperation and Development and the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, this is the first museum to achieve EDGE Advanced Certification in Africa and Middle East. This recognition underscores Egypt’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, while maintaining the legacy of respect for natural resources that runs deep in the country’s rich history. The museum's innovative design and energy-efficient features have not only earned Advanced green certification from IFC, but also set a new standard for green development in Egypt. The Grand Egyptian Museum Campus is one-of-a-kind with a site area of 500,000 m², with the museum itself comprising a total built-up area of 76,658 m². The high-end sustainable design of the museum contributed to the project’s success in earning the EDGE Advanced Green Building Certification. 📣 WATCH: IFC - International Finance Corporation Chief Industry Specialist Prashant Kapoor delivered a keynote address at "Cities: Possibilities 2024" 🔗Watch it Here: https://lnkd.in/eJABGkYB The address discusses the history of EDGE and tells the story of sustainability in the built environment using IFC climate tools like EDGE and, more recently, APEX Green Cities. About this event: Cities: Possibilities 2024 – A CapitaLand Sustainability Edition convened key stakeholders and decision-makers to spotlight solutions to decarbonize the built environment and scale tangible climate action for low-carbon and regenerative cities. The forum underlined the sustainable investment trends that are shaping the real estate sector, and how climate finance can be mobilized to reduce city emissions. Reducing carbon emissions from cities is key to addressing the climate crisis. Cities are now responsible for up to 75 percent of energy-related global greenhouse gas emissions, despite occupying less than 2 per cent of the planet’s surface. The COP28 climate summit last year saw nations pledge to “transition away” from fossil fuels – a historic first. But with the planet having already exceeded the temperature rise of 1.5-degree Celsius limit set under the Paris Agreement in 2015, countries must urgently tackle city emissions to avoid further warming, especially as three-quarters of the global population will live in urban centers by 2050. Cities must rapidly decarbonize by deploying various strategies, from accelerating the energy transition, improving urban planning and infrastructure, electrifying and enhancing public transport systems, managing waste and water resources, and increasing green and blue spaces. Cities must also be regenerative and develop and implement plans to adapt to rising climate impacts such as permanent temperature increases, sea level rise and extreme weather events. Robust policy frameworks, the development and deployment of innovative technological solutions, and scaling of successful collaboration models between government, business and citizens will be key to achieving livable, climate-positive cities. 🌍🏢 Empowering the Green Transition: Webinar Recap on Leveraging GRIP for Real Estate Decarbonization 🏢🌍 👏Thank you to everyone who joined us on October 9, 2024, for an insightful discussion on Greening Real Estate Investment Portfolios (GRIP). The webinar brought together experts to share how real estate owners can effectively define, implement, and finance their green transitions, with practical strategies and real-world examples. For those who missed it, here’s a brief recap of what we covered: GRIP Overview Led by Linshuo Hao, we explored how GRIP supports the decarbonization of large real estate portfolios by offering an integrated approach, from strategy development to financing the green transition. GRIP helps property owners across sectors such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, and industrial to baseline their portfolios, set ambitious climate goals, and access green financing. Technical Decarbonization Strategies Alok Singh shared valuable insights on practical solutions for real estate decarbonization, including retrofits, energy efficiency measures, and resilient design principles that can reduce emissions and utility costs. Interactive Q&A and Closing Remarks We wrapped up with an engaging Q&A session, where Michelle Farrell addressed key questions and shared closing thoughts on driving the climate revolution in real estate. The real estate sector, responsible for ~38% of global energy-related emissions, is undergoing a transformation driven by regulatory changes, investor commitments, and tenant demands. The session included 40-50 KBank participants in attendance, alongside EDGE Champion Siamese Asset, to share their experiences with EDGE and their projects.
