The fall colors are beginning to turn at TruStage Financial Group, Inc. (formerly CUNA Mutual Group) in Madison, and the campus's transformation is truly remarkable. Where the old headquarters once stood, a beautiful new employee activity area is now featuring exposed bedrock.

Sometimes when someone retires you aren’t sure if their replacement will be able to take on all that is required of them. That is NOT the case with Jake Bublitz. Jake attended #FABTECH at Fox Valley Technical College to become and expert about Caterpillar Inc. machines and diesel engines in general. His career includes 5 years working for Fabick Caterpillar and 4 years with Ziegler Caterpillar in Minnesota. He made his way to Edgerton Contractors 5 ½ years ago and worked under the legendary Steve Tremmel until last week when Steve retired. Jake is cool under pressure, and he has a clear understanding of what needs to be done. The guy doesn’t quit until the job is done and it's done right. Edgerton is so fortunate that Jake has accepted his new post as Supervisor of Edgerton’s mechanics, shops, and proactive equipment maintenance program. Congratulations, Jake!! #edgerton #cuttingedge #youngblood #fabickcat #caterpillar

Edgerton maintains a heavy equipment fleet comprising more than 225 assets. We also manage a fleet of dump trucks, nearly 100 personal vehicles, and countless smaller tools. That’s hundreds of systems and thousands of parts—any one of which can fail at any time. It also involves dozens of operators and drivers, each with their own personality—human, prone to mistakes, and inevitably breaking things. When done well, heavy equipment fleet management is an art. For the Shop Superintendent responsible for the fleet, every day starts with a hundred phone calls, often before most people are even out of bed. Each call presents a new puzzle to solve—requiring an immediate grasp of the problem and a series of rapid-fire decisions, followed by clear instructions to a team of mechanics and a network of vendors. Many decisions involve choosing the "least bad" option, often costing thousands of dollars. Many decisions have no “right” answer. All are subject to a budget based on machine rates. While Steve Tremmel has been the Shop Superintendent at the center of Edgerton’s fleet for nine years, he has been preparing for this role his entire working life, operating and repairing equipment since before he could legally drive. As Superintendent, Steve assembled and guided a team of widely respected mechanics, equipping Edgerton with unprecedented in-house capabilities. He spent or invested each dollar as if it were his own, constantly seeking ways to eliminate unnecessary costs and refusing to blindly throw new parts at tough problems. He was firm but fair with dozens of vendors, building relationships based on mutual respect—relationships that proved critical when global supply chains collapsed in 2020. Whether through subtle changes to preventive maintenance protocols or his recommendations for machine end-of-life strategies, Steve’s decisions have steadily reduced lifetime operating costs on machine after machine. At the end of August, after 25 years at Edgerton, Steve Tremmel will begin the next chapter of his life. Edgerton sincerely thanks Steve for his years of dedication and the lasting impact of the legacy he has built. Please join us in wishing him all the best in wherever his next projects take him.

It is time to Jump Around, Badger Nation! Edgerton Contractors, alongside JP Cullen, successfully completed the reconstruction of the turf playing surface at University of Wisconsin-Madison #CampRandall. Check out the final base stone being laid over the underground heating elements, just before the turf went down.
