Governor Newsom has signed SB 1348, establishing the first Black-Serving Institution designation in the nation. The California State University Statewide Central Office for Advancement of Black Excellence will serve as the administering body and the awarding decisions will be made by an eight-member governing board. The California Education Policy Fellowship Program (CA EPFP) welcomes an interdisciplinary group for its 2024-25 cohort. Now in its ninth year, this cohort includes 20 leaders from California’s K-12 and higher education sectors, policymaking, research, and education-focused nonprofits. CA EPFP is a well established national program sponsored by the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) in Washington, D.C., which is part of a national network of more than 300 Fellows at state-based sites throughout the country. "Now, more than ever, it's essential that we create spaces for education professionals to learn from one another about how policy is made and implemented, and to collaborate across segments and geography. I'm looking forward to meeting and learning from the wonderfully-talented folks who make up this year's cohort.” says Leonor Ehling, Executive Director of the Center for California Studies. The ten-month program will be facilitated by CA EPFP alum Marcela R., Ph.D., who was a member of the 2019 cohort and currently serves as co-director. Participants will engage and interact with education leaders within California and across the country, exploring systemic barriers to student success, while working on projects designed to enhance equitable policy development and implementation. The Middle Leadership Academy (MLA) is an academic, year-long, professional development opportunity for evidence-based projects, collaborative learning, and leadership development. The CSU Student Success Network invites cross-functional teams of faculty, staff, administrators, and students from each campus to apply for the 2024-25 Middle Leadership Academy. The Academy is grounded in a problem-based learning model that motivates participants to “lead from the middle” as they explore and apply strategies to support equitable student learning, engagement, progression, and success on their campuses.
