EdSurge covers and connects the people, ideas and tools shaping the future of learning.
About us
Education is changing, now more than ever. It is shaped by technological advancements, scientific research, demographic shifts, business interests and other socioeconomic forces that impact not just teaching and learning, but also the world in which students will enter. And education will increasingly take place not just in schools, but in homes, at work and throughout life. EdSurge is at the forefront of covering these changes and their impact and consequences. We do this through journalism, research and analysis. We also share stories that elevate the voices and experiences of educators, entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders working to support equitable opportunities for all learners. Through our work, EdSurge aims to bridge the information gaps and disconnect that often exist between those who drive change, and those they impact.

Students will reach for their phones during transitions, in between reading passages, whole-group discussions and during moments of boredom. Boredom is a feeling that students need to learn to befriend to tackle a complex text — because being bored should not be a reason to miss out on a thought-provoking reading experience. Fatema Elbakoury writes about implementing boredom in the classroom helped her students build reading stamina and find a genuine love for reading:

"My identity, coupled with the ever-present shadow of negative stereotypes about Latino families not valuing education, has driven me to constantly prove, to others and to myself, that I am worthy of being a teacher and capable of helping my students thrive." A recent study found that what matters for student outcomes isn’t so much money itself, but the number of supportive learning chances that a person gets. But how much does it matter when families gain income if they've been living in poverty? And why do all the high-quality programs out there seem to make such a little dent in boosting education achievement for students from low-income backgrounds?
