EDTECH WEEK reposted this
"If we don't manage this moment well, students won't know what great looks like." - John King, former US Secretary of Ed + current SUNY Chancellor I spent last week in NYC with perfect fall days, great people, and at an outstanding NY EDTECH WEEK. As could be expected, while the event is "big tent edtech", there was a huge #genAI focus. Three quotes are sticking with me: 1️⃣ John King (above) talking about the importance of building foundational skills in students (don't outsource the friction in learning and skill development). 2️⃣ "Innovation moves at the speed of trust" - Jim Larimore. I love this sentiment as it's a reminder that for all the tech-first perspective, humans are at the core. 3️⃣ "Broken systems create broken AI", Tara Carrozza. There are LOTS of products getting built right now that are thinking small. Do we really need genAI math worksheets (broken system meet broken AI)? Optimizing a flawed system does not move us forward. ▶️ While "efficiency" is a worthy "why" for genAI in schools (who can argue with reducing a teacher's workload?) it must be just the start ✨ If we only have efficiency and no "reimagining" - what a loss.
