Bringing community members together to make a change has always been a focus for The Denver Foundation’s Dr. Janet Lopez – and it’s that commitment that brought her to EDUCATE Denver. "In my role at The Denver Foundation, my focus has been on building meaningful relationships with nonprofit leaders, donors, and policymakers across Metro Denver to address our community's most pressing needs. My background in education, along with my commitment to increasing access and opportunity for communities of color, brought me to EDUCATE. I believe we must come together as a community to close the equity gaps in education and ensure all students have the opportunity to learn and thrive."

EDUCATE Denver Chair Rosemary Rodriguez’s op ed shares a look at recent CMAS results and urges District leaders to support the students who aren’t yet where they need to be: “We must be careful to see the information for what it is and not to manufacture a story we wish to hear. … The stark reality is that we aren’t moving the needle at all for most at-risk students. As a district, DPS is struggling to support historically disadvantaged learners to a level of proficiency that will afford them a life of opportunity.” Read the full column: https://lnkd.in/gdfVrjQS

Rachele C Espiritu’s personal journey plays a big part in why she advocates for equitable education. It’s also why she joined EDUCATE Denver. “Growing up as a Filipina immigrant, I faced many challenges from bullying to questions of belonging in my school community. These experiences shaped my understanding of the critical role education plays in ensuring every child feels valued and included. My personal and professional journey from the Philippines to behavioral health equity professional to the DPS School Board fuels my commitment to advocate for an educational system that celebrates diversity and fosters a sense of belonging for all students. With EDUCATE Denver, I strive to create environments where every child knows they are an integral part of our community.”

EDUCATE Denver shares its support of the $975 million bond proposal put forth by the DPS Community Planning & Advisory Committee. “All DPS students deserve learning environments that are safe, comfortable and highly functional,” said Rosemary Rodriguez, chair of EDUCATE Denver. “The capital resources on the table can support them to that end. As civic leaders, we endorse an effort to procure critical resources, but emphasize the need for very sound oversight. We owe that to the Denver community and especially to our DPS families.” Read more in this press release: https://lnkd.in/gpbz9UEa

Colorado State Senator James Coleman attributes his education as a propeller of his success. Today, he’s an EDUCATE Denver participant to ensure all students receive the high-quality education they deserve. “Growing up, many wouldn’t have predicted the leadership role that I earned and enjoy today as a state senator in Colorado. I never fail to appreciate – and I want others to understand – that education propelled my success. I was one of a few fortunate kids in my community with a well-informed parent, who knew how to access high-quality school options. That wisdom unlocked a school setting for me that allowed me to thrive. It is why I participate in EDUCATE Denver, a community of civic leaders who own their responsibility to develop the next generation of leaders in Denver.”
