Food for thought as special education costs increase along with rising numbers of diagnosed students. "The cost of special education is rising as more students are being identified for these services.... Are these increases actually delivering value?” For example, one study showed that higher special education staffing does not equate to better outcomes for students with disabilities! https://lnkd.in/eBuQaXiQ

Education needs research & development funding like other industries so we can innovate models & practices to keep up with the demands of today's classrooms. Teachers & students deserve better. As a company funded by research grants from the Institute of Education Sciences, we agree the next president should prioritize an education innovation agenda, and ensure districts, researchers, policy makers and innovators can conduct appropriate R&D. Students with disabilities and multi-language learners were not being served before the pandemic, so this is no surprise. These students are farthest behind and facing the biggest setbacks. It is time we start making public education truly equitable for all. EdMod serves hundreds of thousands of students with IEPs, 504s or ELL plans, and we look forward to serving them all. “The thing that really struck us as we looked across all of the data points … [is] there’s just a disproportionate impact for those [special populations of] students across the board,” said Robin Lake, director of the Center on Reinventing Public Education at Arizona State University. “What I think really came through to us — especially in the parent interviews we conducted this year — was parents were experiencing a system that wasn’t functioning even before the pandemic effectively for them.” #inclusion #neurodiversity #specialeducation #ELL https://lnkd.in/eDsFsvcw
