About us

Educational Service District 105 supports the learning success of more than 66,000 students who attend the 25 public school districts and more than 20 state-approved private and tribal schools we serve in South Central Washington. As a service agency, our purpose is to meet the expressed needs of local school districts by coordinating and conducting cooperative programs that benefit the educational needs of the young people in the four counties we serve. Through our cost-effective uses of leveraging resources and creating cooperatives, ESD 105 brings this region about $43 in services to schools for every $1 in state core funding our agency receives. As one of nine ESDs in the state of Washington, ESD 105 carries out liaison activities between local school districts, the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the State Board of Education. ESD 105 has approximately 130 employees, and our agency is governed by a seven-member lay board of directors. ESD 105 implements and manages several programs and cooperatives that help schools save money while providing access to services they may not be able to offer on their own. Programs are developed based on the needs of our school districts.

  • Last school year 40 students graduated from our Open Doors 105 GED+ program. This year, our enrollment is expected tor each 150 students! Open Doors is successful at re-engaging our region's students because of the connections the students forge with staff and each other. It is a safe space and the students feel that sense of safety. Share this with students who may have disconnected from their home school, but are looking to reconnect! Our team can help them create an individual pathway to not only earn their GED, but also in taking the next steps toward the future they dream about!! We are #105BetterTogether

  • Help us congratulate our JULY EXTRA MILE AWARD winner.... MERCEDES ZEPEDA!! Mercedes is always ready to provide top notch support to the students and faculty of Blossoms Early Learning Center, but recently she's been putting in extra hours and definitely going the EXTRA MILE! Mercedes has been working diligently to ensure that there is no shift in the quality of service for our staff and families, helping to fill in while the Blossoms Early Learning Center site manager was out on leave! Mercedes prioritized communicating important details to ensure this continuity of service at every turn!  The center was in very good hands! Thank you Mercedes for all you do for our youngest learners and your colleagues! We are #105BetterTogether because of you! 🤩

We wrapped up summer school for LC and Franklin Middle Schools last week. Among the highlights: *100% of LC 7th graders who attempted credit retrieval for Washington State History earned their credits! 🎉 *Students utilized STEM skills to build drones and rockets through their Math and CTE classes through a partnership with EDUCATIONAL SERVICE DISTRICT 105’s 21st Century program. *Our partnership with University of Washington’s Gear Up program allowed us the opportunity to visit Seattle and the Pacific Science Center and attend a Mariners game!

    Designing human centered systems

I released a book today and getting a copy NOW would help me so much! https://lnkd.in/gtmU7E7w  I’d also be ever grateful if you share the link through text, e-mail, and social posts to any and all. When the director that got us to the moon described NASA as "a bureaucracy for innovation," it struck a profound chord with me. The notion of harnessing bureaucracy to foster innovation might seem paradoxical at first. Yet, reflecting on my decades in education, it's clear that the most exhilarating moments were those filled with entrepreneurial spirit—times when I felt like a builder, actively creating something new. In both education and space exploration, the fundamentals—like the structure of schools or the basics of rocket science—are vital. There's a dynamic interplay between innovation and these essentials, similar to the integration of science and art in the classroom. Drawing on these experiences, I've written a book that outlines how to build a robust framework and foundation. This foundation allows for sustainable, powerful innovation, tailored to the unique needs of educational leaders, staff, and communities. While it may not get you to the moon, it aims to transform the way you lead and structure your organization. The Kindle edition is available for just 99 cents, and your early support would greatly help in gaining broader exposure. Even if you're not directly involved in education, purchasing and sharing this resource would mean the world to me. Thank you for being part of this journey. My career in public education has been incredibly rewarding, and I'm eager to share what I've learned with a wider audience.
