  • In sub-Saharan Africa, the intersection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), gender, and entrepreneurship offers a transformative pathway to inclusive growth. Yet, the challenges are significant: *Only 18% of engineering graduates are women, highlighting a gender imbalance that limits diverse innovation. *90% of schools lack adequate science labs, and 80% don’t have reliable electricity—barriers to quality STEM education. *Youth unemployment remains at 83%, driven by mismatched education and market needs, making STEM education pivotal for solutions. At Mitrelli Education Sector, we are committed to tackling these challenges head-on by creating opportunities for all through: 1. Infrastructure Development: In Angola, we partnered with the Ministry of Public Administration, Labour, and Social Security (MAPTSS) to build state-of-the-art training centers, such as the Cuito TVET center, enhancing access to quality technical education. 2. Promoting Gender Equality: Our 23 CFP vocational training project in Senegal emphasizes female enrollment, ensuring that women have access to modern STEM training and career opportunities. 3. Fostering Entrepreneurship: Through initiatives like the PAPE program, we’ve equipped 37,000 youth with professional kits and training, empowering them to join or create businesses that shape Africa's economy. Why It Matters: STEM education, paired with entrepreneurship, is not just a tool for economic development—it’s the key to resilience and sustainability in Africa. By addressing gender gaps and infrastructure deficiencies, we’re not only transforming education but also creating a brighter future for Africa's youth and economies. Together, we can harness the power of STEM to unlock the region's potential and ensure no one is left behind. #STEM #GenderEquality #Entrepreneurship #InclusiveGrowth

  • Access to clean water doesn’t just transform health and livelihoods—it’s a critical pillar for educational progress and empowerment. When children no longer walk long distances to fetch water, they can attend school. When families no longer face waterborne illnesses, they can focus on learning and growth. The launch of Côte d’Ivoire’s ambitious “Eau pour Tous” project, led by Minister of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Mr. Bouaké Fofana, is a milestone for sustainable development. This initiative is a beacon of hope for over 1.5 million people, transforming lives through safe and clean water access. At Mitrelli, we understand the integral role of education in community resilience and economic growth. By partnering with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, we’re contributing to a brighter future where clean water enables children to thrive in schools, fosters health and well-being, and supports lifelong learning opportunities. Congratulations to the Government of Côte d’Ivoire and our Water & Food Security sector for advancing this transformative mission. Together, we’re not just delivering water—we’re unlocking the potential of communities to learn, grow, and build a better tomorrow. Because education starts with the essentials—like access to clean water. #WaterForAll #EducationForAll #SustainableDevelopment #CleanWater #CommunityImpact

"To build a Côte d'Ivoire where access to clean water is no longer a privilege, but a fundamental right for all." – Minister of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Mr. Bouaké Fofana. Access to clean water is vital for health, economic progress, and well-being, yet 2.2 billion people worldwide lack safe drinking water. In sub-Saharan Africa, less than half the population benefits from safely managed water, contributing to widespread waterborne diseases and hindering development. Recognizing the critical importance of clean water, the government of Côte d’Ivoire has made water access and sanitation central to its national plan to improve the health and well-being of its population. Beyond meeting basic needs, clean water drives economic progress, builds resilient communities, and unlocks opportunities, laying the foundations for healthier lives and sustainable growth. On December 7th, in the locality of Galébré, the Gouvernement de Côte d'Ivoire launched the first phase of the transformative "Eau pour Tous" (Water for All) project, led by Minister of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Mr. Bouaké Fofana. This ambitious initiative is to provide over 1.5 million people across 200 sub-prefectures with access to safe and clean water, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainable development and social progress. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Madame Belmonde DOGO, Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and the Fight Against Poverty, and Member of Parliament representing the constituency, and Nabintou Cisse, Deputy Director general of ONEP, further emphasizing the importance of this milestone in driving social cohesion and improving lives. The first phase includes the installation of 95 urban hydraulic systems, comprising wells, extensive water networks, and water towers, designed to provide reliable access to rural and underserved communities. Each system is built to support an average of 7,000 residents. By addressing critical hygiene, health, and economic needs, the project empowers resilient communities and enables to unlock financial growth. Under the leadership of Mitrelli Côte d’Ivoire’s Country General Manager, Eva Peled, and the Cote d’Ivoire team together with the Mitrelli Water & Food Security sector, the project integrates advanced solutions with local engagement for lasting impact. Clean water fuels economic progress, allowing families to focus on education and entrepreneurship while fostering stronger foundations for national development. Mitrelli is proud to partner with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire on this remarkable initiative, turning the vision of universal access to clean water into a reality. Together, we are building a future where clean water is a right for every citizen, and sustainable development becomes the foundation for lasting progress and opportunity. #Mitrelli #CôtedIvoire #ONEP #WaterForAll #SocialImpact #CleanWater #AccessToCleanWater

  • We’re thrilled to announce that Mitrelli Education Sector management recently visited two key sites in Senegal, Niakhar and Diourbel, where the foundations for our Centres de Formation Professionnelle (CFPs) are now complete! This achievement is part of the Senegalese government's vision to establish 23 CFPs nationwide, and we’re proud to be playing a role in this transformative journey. These CFPs are not just structures; they are catalysts for change, designed to deliver impactful technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for local communities. • As rapid urbanization brings 70% of the global population to cities by 2050, the need for bold, innovative leaders to tackle climate and urban challenges grows more urgent, especially in the Global South. This year, World Cities Day celebrates “Youth Climate Changemakers,” focusing on youth-driven solutions for sustainable urban futures. At Mitrelli’s Education Sector, we are proud to support this mission through our Local Entrepreneurship Centers (CLESE) in Angola. CLESE centers are more than training hubs—they’re incubators of change. Over the years, the 10 CLESE centers have trained over 50,000 youth, equipping them with skills in entrepreneurship, technology, and management. These young people are emerging as leaders, prepared to address climate and urban challenges in their communities. CLESE reflects global initiatives by amplifying youth voices at the local level and preparing them to engage in urban decision-making. Youth councils, collaboration with local governments, and dedicated dialogue channels empower CLESE participants to make cities inclusive, resilient, and reflective of diverse needs. This World Cities Day, we celebrate the youth who are shaping cities into environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive spaces, ensuring they meet the needs of both present and future generations. #WorldCitiesDay #YouthChangemakers #SustainableCities #FocusEducation Picture: CLESE Lubango. • As we mark Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024, this year's theme, "The New Digital Frontiers of Information," is not just timely but essential. It prompts us to reflect on the growing need for media literacy in addressing the rapidly evolving challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and AI-generated content in today’s digital landscape. A recent UNESCO article, User Empowerment through Media and Information Literacy Responses to the Evolution of Generative Artificial Intelligence, highlights the increasing necessity for people to engage critically with AI-driven media and synthetic content—a phenomenon that is also prevalent across the African continent. As AI technologies, including generative AI, play an ever-larger role in shaping the information we consume, Media and Information Literacy (MIL) becomes crucial. It empowers individuals with the skills to think critically, make informed decisions, and protect themselves from the risks of disinformation. At Mitrelli we are deeply committed to education, recognizing that human capital is key to long-term development. Our focus on Africa’s youth, at the forefront of the digital revolution, is central to our mission. By promoting digital literacy and equipping the next generation with critical thinking skills, we believe we are laying the foundation for a more resilient, informed, and prosperous future. Drawing on insights from the UNESCO report, we understand that promoting digital literacy goes beyond mere access to technology—it’s about providing the knowledge and tools people need to navigate this new information age ethically and responsibly. Through our commitment to education, we aim to bridge the digital divide, enhance employability, and foster civic engagement. Let’s continue working toward a future where every individual in Africa, and beyond, has the skills to thrive in this new digital world. Click here to read the full report: Frau-Meigs, Divina (2024). • Last Saturday (05.10) we celebrated World Teachers’ Day! We pause to reflect on the immense contributions of teachers — the true foundation of education. Their dedication and expertise are the driving force behind the progress and development of future generations. Teachers shape minds, nurture potential, and pave the way for stronger, more resilient societies. This year’s theme, “Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education,” reflects the urgency of recognizing teachers not just as educators, but as pivotal partners in shaping educational policy and reform. Their voices must be central in decisions that impact the future of learning. At Mitrelli Education Sector, we are proud to support teachers through initiatives such as the RETEP project, which has trained 10,000 TVET teachers, and the equipping of 60 educational institutions across Angola. We’ve also trained hundreds of science teachers in modern laboratories established by KORA (Mitrelli Urbanization Sector) —demonstrating our commitment to empowering teachers with the skills and resources they need to thrive. As we celebrate, we’ll also share photos of the teachers participating in our training programs. These are the faces of those being empowered, learning new skills, and preparing to transform classrooms and communities across Angola and beyond. Let’s continue to champion our teachers and give them the support they need to succeed. #WorldTeachersDay #FacesOfEducation #TeachersAreTheFuture #MitrelliGroup #AngolaEducation #TeacherEmpowerment #BuildingEducation Michal Milhalter Antonio Cruz
