Through processes like fermentation, microbial engineering, and enzymatic synthesis, biotechnology can produce ingredients that are more specific in their molecular structure and function. This allows for the development of compounds, such as biosurfactants, that are highly optimized for specific cosmetic functions, such as moisturization, sebum regulation, or anti-inflammatory effects. Many biotechnologically derived ingredients, like #glycolipids (e.g., sophorolipids or rhamnolipids), offer multifunctionality. They can cleanse, emulsify, control inflammation, and boost moisturization all at once, which is difficult to achieve with chemically synthesized surfactants.
