We are pleased to share our 2023 impact report and ongoing efforts to strengthen #Egypt's private sector. The first half of 2024 has been busy. In February, Egypt received a $35 billion investment from ADQ, the largest foreign investment in the country's history. Two weeks later, Egypt signed an $8 billion loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund. These funding arrangements have helped stabilize Egypt's economy after a foreign currency shortage, increasing prices, and record inflation that has come down considerably in the last year. In this context, we continue to invest in Egypt's private sector. We are supporting two new fund managers, Foundation Ventures and East Lane Partners, to help strengthen the local #venture capital and #private equity industry. We also committed $50 million to the second fund of our long-time partner, TCV Tanmiya Capital Ventures. In total, we have supported 7 first-time fund managers, who have helped us invest in over 130 companies that today support 55,000 jobs. We look forward to continuing to strengthen the local investment ecosystem by investing in Egyptian talent. Growing the private sector is the key to unlocking Egypt's economic potential. https://lnkd.in/gvwUxtCq

The Egyptian American Enterprise Fund's (EAEF) mission is to strengthen Egypt's private sector and economic development.
About us
The Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund identifies and addresses gaps in financing markets for entrepreneurs and small businesses and demonstrate to investors the potential for profit by creating opportunity for the private sector to flourish. In addition to investing capital profitably – which can have important demonstration effects – the Fund will promote and disseminate international commercial best practices in Egypt. This is a model that was pioneered in Eastern and Central Europe in 1990s with considerable success.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of speaking to students at Columbia Business School taking part in a global immersion course on #Egypt. In a few weeks, these students will be traveling Egypt to meet with leading companies in the private sector and learn more about the country’s culture and investment environment. We appreciated the thoughtful and robust Q&A from the students, where we discussed the history of our fund’s work in Egypt, investment challenges and successes, and the current macroeconomic situation. Wishing you all a successful trip to Egypt and best of luck on the upcoming semester! Thank you to Professor Marco Viola and Columbia Business School for inviting us!

Excited to announce our recent investment in leading microfinance player, Tamweely Microfinance, led by our partner TCV (Tanmiya Capital Ventures) along with SPE Capital , EBRD and British International Investment. Tamweely was formerly owned by various Egyptian state entities and its exit is a strong move for the government's privatization agenda and its efforts to attract local and foreign investment. https://lnkd.in/ejB8-kHW
